Aussie Open 2012
« on: January 13, 2012, 02:22:05 PM »
The draw was released this morning.

(Mens)
Tomic got a hard first round match against Fernando Verdasco.
If he makes the fourth round match he could be playing against Roger Federer if he makes the fourth round as well.

Hewitt plays German Cedric-Marcel Stebe R1

Also the draw shows if the top 4 progress with no big upsets semi's will be Djokovic v Murray and Federer v Nadal.

(Womans)
Quote
In the women's side of the fixture, Sam Stosur has been given a handy draw for the early rounds of the Australian Open.
The sixth seeded Australian will play Romania's Sorana Cirstea in the opening round with Russian 29th seed Nadia Petrova likely to be her first seeded opponent in the tournament.
Stosur is in the same quarter of the draw as second seed Petra Kvitova meaning the pair would meet in the quarter-finals if they both make it that far.
World No.1 and top seed Caroline Wozniacki has been drawn against Anastasia Rodionova in the opening round while defending champion Kim Clijsters will face a qualifier.
Jelena Dokic has also received a favourable early draw and will play unseeded Russian Anna Chakvetadze in the opening round.
Jarmila Gajdosova will take on 22nd seed Maria Kirilenko

Unfortunately not expecting much from the Aussies to be honest

Hewitt should retire sad to see him losing matches that when fit he used to be able to grind out victories in

Stosur simply struggles playing at home = above the shoulders

Other women; Dokic depends on which Jelena turns up  ;D

As for Tomic, well how can I say this without sounding like a "tall poppy" cropper  ;D It's nice he is playing in the hit 'n' giggle final at Kooyong tomorrow but I rather see that form next week than this week, think he will struggle in the big one... feel for the kid too (and I am not a fan BTW) massive unfair expectations on him IMHO

Going on Monday night too  :thumbsup

Yep he should retire. The game has gone past Hewitt.

Tomic and Stosur are probably the only two Aussies who will make it to the 3rd round.

Hewitt should of retired last year after winning Kooyong go out on a high announcing before AO it will be his last. From memory he did get knocked out R1 in the open last year but his not going to go very far in any GS these days R3 if he gets a very lucky draw. As WP said it's just not the same seeing him fight hard but in the end lose.

Tomic hopefully he can beat Verdasco his got the game to beat him should be a ripper of a match.
Stosur fingers crossed she goes well but playing at home her struggle is in between the ear's so never know how she turns up and plays.

Tomic has come back from two sets down. Now it's up to who is less fatigued in this final set in this heat.

Wasn't a pretty match. Both hit alot of errors but in the end it was a strong fight back from Tomic I didn't think he would win after going down 2 sets.

Stosur simply struggles playing at home = above the shoulders

Lost the first in a tie break

And down a break 2-4 in the 2nd

Needs to do a Tomic  :-\ :pray :pray but highly doubtful

Dokic through to the 2nd round with a 48 minute demolition of some Russian player

Cedrik-Marcel Stebe is paying over $3 for the win tonight against Hewitt if you like to hedge your money and support on matches.

Stosur was out of form leading into the Oz Open and it just carried over into round 1.

Hewitt has come back from 1-5 in the 4th set to now lead 6-5 and be one game away from winning the match. He's fortunate Steber choked under the spotlight and the noise from the crowd.

Still reckon he should retire

And why was he scheduled on centre court  :huh No offensive but Lleyton recent form doesn't warrant him being given centre court at night.

WOuld have though the defending champion would desrve centre court in prime time over a wild card recipient  :-\
