Sponsorship is one area where it realistically could become beneficial. As India grows economically, Indian companies who want to promote their goods/services in Australia may choose the RFC to do so via sponsorship(s).

The EPL clubs are all making a big push in India as well.

There's no internationally renowned Indian soccer players either.

behindnal, Barcelona, Man U all have memberships (about $50) that provide access to exclusive web content.  behindnal has 57000 +/- members who have game/seat access.  They're aiming at millions without game access and only "web/club membership".

If you don't try and sructure some form of membership, well you'll get zero dollars.  If you try and build something then at least you have a chance.

behindnal  :lol gets me every time  ;D

And how dare you! Indias keeper is sweet. He trained with behindnal for a while

I take your point & like I said it's an admirable goal by Benny, I just have major doubts it will work at any sustainable level for the amount of dollars it would take to gain a foothold there.

You have to remember that soccer is a high profile global game already well establish across the western world before pressing into India.
It doesn't need to market itself.
Our sport on the other hand is still a novelty even to those in most Western countries.
It's hardly fair draw a comparison between AFL and the EPL on that basis.

I'm not knocking the club for looking to establish the connection, far from it. I just have my doubts as to whether the amount of sweat it will take, will reap genuine rewards.

Realistically mobs like Kingfisher Airlines and the like who are pushing to become international airlines soon.  Theres a rule in India you have be a domestic airline for so many years before you can become an international.  These mobs are getting to that line.  They'll be like Air Asia and Ryan Air.

Its quite a visionary move by Benny Gale and it may pay off in 5 or 10 years time, given India's growth rate of 7% and 1.2 billion people.  Though very few of them are rich enough to pay the sort of money Aussies do as supporters.  An add in an airport I saw when I was there in 2010 said "Advertise to the 30 million who can afford to fly", so that's the size of the "rich" market in India.

It has paid off for Melbourne in China with some good sponsorship coming through.

I played against some Indian football players in Singapore when I was in the navy, they have a team called the Singapore Wombats, was mixed nationality with some expats.  I think HKTiger knows something bout that? That aside, you would treat the Indian market differently, price accordingly, after all, many more punters mean it all evens out.

HKTiger's wife was the trainer for the Singapore Wombats. Chances are HK could give us some good info about them.

Who knows, for a game we could change the design of our sash to resemble a garlic naan .....These sorts of ideas seem to be all the rage these days.

We could even let our Indian friends into our games for half price, the sealer could be a complimentary bowl of jungle curry.

All you whiteys have to pay full price though  :thumbsup

I've played footy against Singapore and other international teams in a tournament in Bali. There is a fair bit of interest.

I think it's a great idea from Benny to tap into the Indian population. There are already heaps of second generation boys & girls born here so why not get them excited about the yellow & black.  He should also look to get Russell Peters on board too.
.... But he'd better hurry up before the kangas decide to steal our idea.

I applaud the initiative :clapping , way to go TIGERS...for starters we should be looking to introduce yellow & black saris and turbans into the merchandise range, Id wear one...what a crack up if 60,000 fans turned up in Y&B turbans :lol...would be NEWS right around the globe...and the marketing spin from that would be phenominal :shh

Whoa, thats classic bojangleberg! :bow
