Am i the only one who thinks we can win?

So in my No Excuses thread you questioned me; did I really think we are a better team than the Blues........now all of a sudden we can beat the Pies, are you for real?????

WAT old sport, i dont wanna get into a humbug here. This whole no excuses thing is tiresome. My view is that we 'can' win this game, like we could have won last week. We probably wont, because like Carlton, Collingwood have superior class and experience at this stage. But I do think we are a chance if things roll our way and we get our tails up.
My point in the other thread was that though i was disappointed with last week's result, it was probably an accurate reflection of where the two clubs are at. They are top four material. We aint.

No, fair enough mate, but see I just don't rate the Blues, I don't even think they are a top 4 side, but they jagged it last year.

I rate the Pies a hell of a lot more, yes IMHO we should of won last week, as you say, but the Pies......as I have said, play with the skills like we did against the Cats in the NAB, we will win, play like last week... :P

Yeah, we certainly didn't play well last week, but in saying that we were still in it right up until the last 10 minutes.
If our good players fire this week we might give the wobbles a run. But, your right we will need to sharpen up significantly.

i agree, have a feeling about this week, we are not expected to win so pressure is off but the players will be very hungry ,, we had 2 or three good players last week and beat ourselves, i just have a feeling we may just upset these skunks

I hope for our sake we are at least competitive. Last week we played about 2 and bit decent quarters. Our 2nd quarter and last half of the final quarter were abysmal. We need to do far better than that to beat the Pies. They are another hard gut running side which is the area we struggled to consistently maintain last week.

The wearing of moccasins barred by the MCG so it'll be only Richmond supporters allowed in on Saturday night  :lol

Geez I hope they allow scuffs with long socks. I have just bought the complete range of Damir Dokic outerwear for winter 2012.

Tigers unmoved after loss

By Paul Daffey
afl.com.au
Thu 05 Apr, 2012

RICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick says the club is preparing for its battle against Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday night in just the fashion it prepared for last week's season-opener against Carlton.

There was enormous hype surrounding Richmond last week amid anticipation that the Tigers could topple a premiership fancy with injury problems.

There was even talk of Richmond making the finals if they could get over Carlton, only for the Blues to clear away and win by 44 points.

There's been much less hype leading into this match against last year's runner-up. There's even a flatness about the build-up.

Hardwick, however, said that inside the club the preparation has been just the same.

"This is AFL footy. There's always going to be hype," Hardwick said.

"Inside the club I thought we handled last week's hype OK. We just didn't play the way we wanted to play."

Jake King is available this week after returning from suspension. Without saying whether King would be brought straight into the team, Hardwick said the feisty small forward was a barometer because of his competitiveness.

"If a scrap of food dropped on to the floor, he'd compete for it," he said.

The player most under the microscope after last week's loss is tall forward Tyrone Vickery, who had two kicks and one handball and took one mark against Carlton.

Vickery has been working especially hard at training this week at leading out and doubling back in an attempt to shake his opponent.

Hardwick is keen to see an improvement. "He (Vickery) played as poorly as I've seen him play last week."

He added lightly: "It would have been good if he took a bloody mark!"

Apart from long-termers Kelvin Moore (hip) and David Astbury (knee), half-back Brad Helbig is the Tigers' only injury concern after damaging a foot playing for the Coburg Tigers last weekend.

Helbig is out for eight matches.

Hardwick was reluctant to reveal any plans for Collingwood opponents other than to say his team would work hard to contain key forwards Travis Cloke and Chris Dawes, and there would be players rotated on and off key midfielders Dane Swan and Scott Pendlebury.

Pendlebury was superb during Collingwood's 22-point loss to Hawthorn last weekend. He had 33 disposals and took five marks and almost dragged the Magpies to victory, only for the Hawks to surge late.

Hardwick said Pendlebury's hands are as good as he's seen. "We'll try to put some body checks on him."

He said news that Magpies captain Nick Maxwell would miss the match could only be good for the Tigers. "Any time a good opposition player is not in the team is a bonus."

Mmmm, little bit negative, or actually defensive talk towards the end of that interview, talking about stopping forwards, rotating plyers off and on Pends and Swan, Nick Maxwell not being in is a bonus.....

Would rather him speak about playing attacking football, getting their skill level up, no turnovers etc.....

Gee Damien do you want to win or are you making excuses now... :lol........I know you want it!!!!!

Dimma can't give everything away.

Need to keep something close to our chests.

I would love to see Deledio on Pendlebury.

Would love to see Dimma challenge Lids like he did with his game on Goddard.

That move almost single handedly changed the game last year.

We are going to have our hands full with Cloke and Dawes.

Challenge the mids to go one on one with theirs.

I want to see something proactive not reactive.

Who knows we may pressure them into errors and stay in the game.

If ultimately we are to go down would rather go down doing something than merely just playing a

standard predictable structure.

Horses for courses.
