actually thought it was the worst we have played all yr.
we have lost games this yr and played so so so much better than that. ive actually taken more away from losses than that win.
there is a question here whats best.
play well and lose or play terrible and win. or are we really at a stage where as long as we play well the wins dont really matter.
the upside is i thought we would lose this game with so many changes and so many ordinary players getting another go at it.
persoally i ask myself how poor is melbourne? a middling side like us whos overall list is probably in reality not that much better than melbournes can play so poor make so many changes and still win .
personally i reckon this game was a step backwards especially when it comes to skills decision making we can thank our lucky stars it was such poor side we played because against almost anyone else we would have lost i have no doubt.
Did you notice the changed structures ? The negating patterns we used against the Dee's ? Did you note which worked and which didn't ? Notice that we changed the midfield rotations (quite radically) and won the clearances and stoppages easily ?
just a question are you saying we performed poorly because of these things or better. im assuming poorly.
not having a go but please tell the changed structures, the negating patterns, and which worked and which didnt. please tell me the rotations that worked so well or what actually significantly changed from previous weeks.
1/ as far as structure goes the only thing that changed is personell . three tall forwards, jack miller vickery in previous weeks jack derickx mcguane this week. previously one ruckman in ivan getting a chop out from vickery or miller, this week ivan with derickx. a better situation imo, two tall defenders with the option of mcguane or derickx going back. yep we missed grimes but batchelor was asked to play tall. we have gone with just two tall defenders in several games this yr. at we had the option of both mcguane or derickx going back if need be.
mate that is so similar to what we have done all yr. in a lot of ways it was more flexable than we have been for most of the yr so your point is we played poorly because of poor structure i dont buy into it.
2/ negating patterns please tell what really changed from previous weeks. seems we pushed up pretty much as we have done all yr. pretty hard to pick up any subtle changes 3ooo km away in perth.
3/ midfield rotations you say we radically changed them yet the same blokes who have carried this load all yr were the ones who carried us again. it was cotchin, tuck, deledio, grigg again.
4/ clearance and stoppages havent we done well at these things all yr what was so different against melb. we did well again.
ball use decision making and skills remain the bug bear.
just to finish imo and that is all it is my opinion but that would have to be the worst we have performed all yr. the skill level made it very hard to watch. like i said ive seen us lose this yr and walked away reasonably happy we have played infinately better in most of our losses than we did in that win.
