No Tigers offer for Chaplin yet, says Peter Rohde Michelangelo Rucci
From: The Advertiser
August 28, 2012 10:30PMRICHMOND has not made an offer to Port Adelaide defender Troy Chaplin at this stage, Power football operations manager Peter Rohde says.
It has been reported Richmond has offered key defender Chaplin a four-year deal which Port would be unable to match.
But Rohde said he had been assured by Chaplin and his management that there had not been an offer from the Tigers, who the Power plays in its final match of the season at the MCG on Sunday.
"I've heard all the speculation but everyone denies that it's happened, so I don't actually think it (the offer) is in place," Rohde said.
"Troy and his management have said it's not the case and the club in question has said it's not the case, but I suppose we'll see in the not-too-distant future, I suppose."
Rohde said Port's failure to have a senior coach in place would not have a major detrimental effect on its recruiting plans.
"A lot of that work goes on in the background, talking to managers and players about who potentially might come," Rohde said.
"Obviously we're going to need a senior coach to come in and put his stamp on the list at some stage but it's not really until the end of September or early October before a senior coach needs to take an active role in it."
