The VFL is introducing a Wildcard Round for the finals next year.

WildCard Round
Saturday August 26 & Sunday August 27
7th vs 10th
8th vs 9th

Definitely against it being brought in to the AFL...However, I actually think this is a good thing at VFL level. Gives more kids exposure to finals football (pressure). Really the VFL is now a development league for AFL teams so the more players get to show their skills and abilities the better.

VFL and VFLW fixtures for 2023 close to being released.

https://twitter.com/PaulAmy375/status/1621704516520513536

-------

The VFL 2023 fixture list has not been released yet - with the most likely reasoning due to the competition needing to sort out venues for the upcoming season.

It has been confirmed to start on the weekend of March 25-26 - which will be during the second round of the AFL season.

Six teams will qualify direct for finals while the the four teams from 7th-10th will playoff in a 'wildcard round'.

The VFL Grand Final will be held on Sunday, September 24, on the weekend before the September 30 AFL Grand Final.

A strong VFL team, means depth. If we have depth, we win the flag. It's as simple as that...

We're got one of Bradtke/Narkle to add to that mix too.

A better balanced team although I'm not sure where Colina fits especially if both Soldo and Samson share the ruck duties.

All matches in the season will be live streamed free via the AFL website and AFL Live Official App. Smithy’s VFL broadcast partner, the Seven Network, will continue to show one weekly game live and free on the Seven Network in Victoria and on 7Plus nationally.

The Tigers will fine-tune its pre-season at four upcoming practice matches, including one at the Swinburne Centre against Carlton on Thursday, March 16 ahead of Richmond and Carlton's AFL season opener.

Richmond hand SSP trainee Luke Teal VFL contract

The young defender will remain in the yellow and black following his stint with the Tigers’ AFL program.

Richmond have handed Supplemental Selection Period hopeful Luke Teal a VFL contract for the 2023 season following the teenager's training stint with the Tigers' AFL program over the summer.

Teal, a medium-sized defender, was among the leading names left without an AFL club after being overlooked at last year's draft period despite a strong showing for the Oakleigh Chargers in the NAB League.

The 18-year-old was limited to just four matches for the Chargers but did show glimpses of his poise and versatility as a 190cm backman, mostly utilised in a lockdown role to average 17.8 disposals, 5.0 marks and 2.5 rebound 50s for the season.

The Glen Iris product would also earn a sole appearance for Vic Metro in their season decider while also featuring in the AFL Academy's clash with Collingwood's VFL side early into his draft year.

Hopefully Truck & Grimes can put some direct development time into Teal and determine if he has AFL attributes to take on Dylan's role at VFL level.
