Never underestimate how important this bloke is

Was horribly out of form at the start of the season but has fought back and is back to his best
IIRC he has never been named all Australian??

What no one is talking about: Vlastuin has rediscovered his best

Andrew Slevison

Premiership defender Nick Vlastuin’s form had dipped around a month ago.

His regular output had dropped off and he had been making a few more errors than we’ve been used to.

In the one-point loss to Essendon in Round 10, Vlastuin showed that his form was starting to turn with 22 touches, 11 marks and five rebound 50s.

Unfortunately he copped a corky in that game which kept him out for two weeks, but since his return he has been superb in back-to-back wins over Fremantle and the Saints.

He was one of Richmond’s best few in the Dockers win where he had 26 disposals, 12 marks and seven rebound 50s.

On Saturday night, he was again in the top few Richmond players with an assured showing of 23 touches, nine marks and six rebound 50s in slippery conditions.

Vlastuin is so vital to the way Richmond plays with his ability to read the ball and intercept at will. His upturn in form is a massive boost for their finals hopes.

In his last four games, Vlastuin is averaging 22.7 disposals, 10.0 marks, 3.0 tackles, 6.0 rebound-50s, 9.0 intercepts, 3.3 score involvements, 5.6 contested possessions, 3.5 one-percenters and 411.9 metres gained.

Vlastuin is again showcasing the elite marking and intercept ability, kicking skill, composure, courage and toughness that makes him one of the competition’s very best defenders.

No Vlastuin and it would have been well over 100 points. Agree with others struggled early this year to the point where he should have been dropped but has been excellent the last 4 or 5 weeks culminating in a superb effort against Brisbane.Shame a few of his team mates could not take a leaf out of his book.

If he wasn’t such a damn good defender and so important intercepting the ball back there, could fill in as a fwd. great contested mark and beautiful kick.

If Banks come on nicely...late career change?

Otherwise Ross isn't a bad mark + shot tbh

Think Tom Brown is the vlas clone. Medium-tall defender with a good mark and kick on him.
