Thought Lonergan did pretty well against WCE. I liked his toughness at the ball and his disposal was ok too. Question for everyone, if Lonergan was a first year player, from the VFL or even a late ND pick, would we want him dropped? Or is it different because he has come from one of the most hated clubs we play against?
I personally think he has done enough in both his games to keep his spot, considering he has been the sub. His tackling and pressure against WCE was what we need as a club week in week out. If that pushes others to do the same to get a game, I'm all for it.
I thought his disposal in the Dreamtime game was very poor and only slightly better against the Eagles. That kick early in the final qtr after he marked 50 odd metres out that went sailing out on the full, highlights the disposal concerns, no real pressure, a shot at goall and he butchered it. Thankfully we were so far ahead it didn't matter. Thinking about it was actually the final play in a 2 minute edition of footy comedy capers
In answer to your question about if he was a first year player would we want him dropped, I would say outside of wanting him dropped people would most likely be going off their collective heads asking how we could recruit someone with such dreadful kicking when we have been told that we only go after players who can kick
My issue with Lonergan is not with him so much but the fact he got selected ahead of a player that has played consistently well at Coburg over a number of weeks (Arnot) when he (Lonergan) had played 1 really good game for Coburg over a 3 week (think it was 3) period. And then the disposal on top of that....
What sort of message does that send?
We were told there would be no more gifting of games, in this case it appears to me at least a gift was given
