It's one thing to improve your list with the Houli's and Griggs but when you get to our stage in development, first and foremost, each year you need to improve your best 22. This kid will definitely do that from what I have seen of him. But we need to find a way to get him and also keep our pick 11.
We need to add two quality players to our best 22. Even the premiers add at least one good kid and if you are to bridge the gap you need two. It also pushes the last 2 out that usually get a game.
GWS are going to want one or even two decent, mature players IMO instead of more draft picks. So for me, if you are not in the best 22 or you are borderline, and simular to others on the list, than you are expendable. The likes of S.Edwards, Batchelor, Bachar, Grigg, McGuane, Jackson, Helbig, White, Arnot are all replaceable and wouldn't really be missed if they went.
reckon we can either trade for players and use up what good picks we have or we can embrace the draft with early picks.
imo we cant do both.
people are not paying attention. taylor adams is a high quality player he could we;ll end up in the top echelon of players from all clubs.
lets see. a hypothetical.
lets use nick vlastuin as an example.
hes just got thru his first yr and hes done more than expected. he looks great. lets say next yr he takes it up another notch as well and ends up with more improvement like adams has atm. adams is very impressive for a kid who has played for just two yrs at the level. like adams vlastuin ticks most boxes he has poise good skills makes good decisions is tough is a leader and atm adams can really win a lot of ball and does get a lot of ball. in oither words the quality word should be used.
i have to ask knowing what vlastuin should/will become what is acceptable to us if say he wanted to theoretically go home to gws. would we in all seriousness accept one or two of
s edwards, batchelor, houli, grigg, mcguane, jackson, helbig, white, arnot. the simple answer is we would laugh our heads off.
we would only accept a quality player in return failing that a very good draft pick or picks.
so why would gws accept for adams any thing less than we would ourselves.
imo we dont have any players they would accept that fit into what is acceptable except our better young players.
to trade one of them out for adams would mean we tread water gaining little.an upgrade on an already good player. the idea is to add on and significantly improve our list for the long term.
reckon to trade for adams and not use pick 11 we need to look at what quality players we have and who we can most afford to lose and who we can cover.
theres not many who actually fit the bill to trade for quality players. and they cant be replaced. imo the only real thing we can offer up for adams is pick 11. if we get adams we will not have pick 11 or we will be one less quality player short.
all up i reckon theres 8 or 9 players we could trade who have real value when trading for a quality player to come in. most of em are required players in the right age group and to trade em out defeats the purpose.
