Betts was a stuff up before he left , starred next season
Garlett was a stuff up before he left , starred next season
Waite was a stuff up before he left , starred next season
Henderson was a stuff up before he left ............
Yarran was a stuff up before he left .................

There's a clear pattern here, most get it  ::)
This just goes to show you dont watch games of footy.
Betts Waite, Garlett, and Henderson all had multiple good seasons in their roles before they left carlton.
Betts previous 4 season before his last yr at carlton  he averaged 45 goals a season Mate for a sml fwd that is some track record.
Waite as much as i hate the prick had good seasons . Injuries and ill discipline his biggest problem. the bloke averaged very close to 2 goals a game for his last three seasons at carlton.
Garlett sheesh his preceding 4 yrs at carlton netted 39, 48, 29 and 43 goals a season and he laid his share of tackles.
Henderson played as a swing man at Carlton. When played at chb was one of the best defenders in the comp and had a track record of high performances until the last few seasons wher injury and just wanting to get out happened.

You know there is more than one pattern here. One you can see the other you are oblivious too.

What is going on with Yarran  reminds me a bit  of the Hampson fiasco. Yarran has 7 yr history to judge him by. I suggest you look at that history. Then ask what role do we want him for and what are we prepared to pay.  Tick the boxes as you go SML fwd kicks goals, chases, tackles etc.
Based on his 7 yr history at afl level and based on the WAY he has played at the level im loath to even offer up a second round pick for him.
I said BEFoRE they left, so don't manipulate my comments to suit your own lame argument. The facts are in the season before leaving Carlton , they were ALL poo, next year starred , FACT :wallywink

3rd least points against in the league.
9th points for.

yet you think the backline is our problem?
your solution is to send out third most goal kicker down back?

I think there a number of problems

I would play lids there as I don't think we are good enough, to have the luxury of having lids anywhere bar the quarterback.  Where he can intercept mark rebound, dictate the game

Ideally he'd be chf or ff
Then he grabbed two chopsticks and stuck them in his mouth , pretending to be a walrus

despite what some may think, Vlaustuin's second half of the year gives me great confidence he can impact games in the way you search across half back.

nor have you addressed that the difference between us and those playing this saturday, is not how much was scored against us, but how much we scored ourselves, and how taking our third best goal scorer out of attack and into defence actually addresses this issue?

Lids should always have been a forward who played through the midfield 30-40% of the time. Poor bloke had to waste half his career sweeping across the HB line coz we were so shyte house. Could have kicked 75 goals in a great team. Doesn't miss.

He had to play out of position in order to carry our ratshyte backline and put some class down there. Might as well put your best players where the ball is going to be...

why was hodge playing in the back - when hes a star mid and pretty handy forward?

Lids, Vlastuin, Rance, Grimes

starts to look alright (Carlise, Bennell)  8)

my philosophy is you build around the defense. Aint going to win a flag with chappy IMO, houli might need to be pushed higher so his softness is less evident at critical moments
