After reading the adjacent thread about Cotchin and the Hawks makes me wonder where Miles will play next year.
Considering the coach doesn't rate him and left him in the reserves for so long, it would be the smart thing for Miles to grab a senior list offer from other clubs and that club may very well be the Hawks considering he would be the perfect swap for Mitchell.

Anthony Miles       179cm         80kg        28/2/92 DOB
Sam Mitchell         179cm        83kg        12/11/82 DOB

How does this work, do we have first crack at him? Or if he's decided already he wants out he can walk?

Could be wrong but pretty sure if we decide to promote him via the draft -and I'd be staggered if we didn't - no other club can touch him.

Whats the ruling on this.

Lets say hypothetically Miles somehow won the Brownlow this year and became the best player in the comp.

Is there any possible chance that any other club could draft him if we desperately wanted to keep him? Could we lose Miles?

Off the top of my head, if a rookie is elevated at the end of the season, by means of pre-season, LTI or round 11 upgrade, then to keep them on the senior list you must forfeit your final ND pick (as in absolute final round pick, not necessarily final live pick) otherwise they go back on to the rookie list unless delisted or they walk to re-enter the draft. There is no bidding or anything. If the player is keen then no one else can touch them. Not that anyone would have gone near him even with a pole, but Petterd finished last year's season elevated so he only cost us a token last ND pick to keep on senior list.

What about mid-year elevations?

Would appear that our Club has decided not to use that option  :'(

Do they have to straight away or can they bank it? If they can bank it don't see why not save it to see if it needs to be used on Miles

We have first chance at putting him on a seniors list.
Look at it like someone who is at the end of their contract.
He could choose to walk into the draft or trade if he wants to leave and declines our offer.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

That's precisely how it works , at draft day his name is read out as upgraded rookie, alternately he d have to reject our offer and walk into national draft. Who on earth would do that  ::)

Reminds me of Hawthorn using pick 19 on Isaac Smith in the 2010 draft.
Now of course Miles wouldn't be anywhere near as valuable as Smith to any opposition club so why would he risk going to the national draft.  :whistle
