Daniel Jackson and Jack Riewoldt return for Richmond practice match Jon Ralph
Herald Sun
February 28, 2014 7:19PMRICHMOND expects to welcome back stars Jack Riewoldt and Daniel Jackson on Friday at a Punt Rd Oval practice match it fears will burst at the seams.
The Tigers take on archrival Essendon at their traditional Richmond home, but with all 2100 tickets already sold, the club hopes not to have to turn away disappointed punters desperate to watch the contest.
The clash is the first VFL/AFL match at the ground in almost 50 years, but also the last chance for Riewoldt (calf tightness) and Jackson (hip/groin) to get match practice ahead of the Round 1 Metricon Stadium clash against the Gold Coast.
If Riewoldt trains well as expected next week he should get his first match practice of the pre-season, with reigning best-and-fairest winner Jackson also hopeful of playing.
The Tigers believe Jackson’s niggling injury is improving.
Punt Rd is still undergoing renovation ahead of hosting VFL games this year, with gate proceeds on Friday going to the Alannah and Madeline Foundation.
The last AFL-VFL senior game played at Punt Rd was on August 22, 1964, between Richmond and Hawthorn.
