Richmond assistant coach Justin Leppitsch has likened the MRO to a “chook lotto” as the Tigers prepare to challenge the one-match ban handed down to big man Ivan Soldo.
Soldo elbowed Hawk James Worpel in the head in an off the ball hit that was similar to a pair of Gary Ablett hits and a Nat Fyfe strike in recent weeks.
Leppitsch said the club would appeal the sanction handed down by the MRO last night.
“The powerbrokers … were of the opinion (that) there is enough evidence, I guess recently, that guys who has done similar things have got off,” Leppitsch said on SEN Breakfast.
“At times I think we think we all feel like it’s a chook lotto at times. You just don’t know what you’re going to get.
“We’ll go appeal it, we think there is enough evidence there and we will see what they say.”
Ablett successfully appealed a one-match ban for a high hit on Bomber Dylan Shiel in Round 7 and then was not cited for a similar incident in Round 8 on North Melbourne’s Sam Wright. Fyfe was cleared of any wrongdoing after his hit on Richmond’s Tom Lynch the same week.
It is expected that the Tigers will argue that the act was careless.
