"I think Richmond want to retain him, but I dare say he will get to Port Adelaide next year."

Port 'more than open' to welcoming Tigers ruckman

The Power have confirmed they are interested in Tigers ruckman Ivan Soldo

PORT Adelaide football boss Chris Davies says if Ivan Soldo wants to leave Richmond, the door is open at Alberton.

Speaking on Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio, Davies reaffirmed Port's desire to chase key defenders Esava Ratugolea and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher, and also made no secret of the fact it wanted to bolster its ruck stocks.

Out-of-contract Western Bulldog Jordon Sweet has already expressed his desire to join Ken Hinkley's team, but Davies said the club would be "more than open" to Soldo coming as well.

"Ivan's in that situation where … he wants to be a first ruck," Davies said.

"Whether he's going to be able to do that at his existing club is a question he needs to answer himself.

"We definitely have a need in that area and if he was in a situation where he wanted to leave Richmond, then we would be more than open to him coming.

"We need a genuine No.1 ruckman, so we're in the market for that type of player."

Soldo is contracted with the Tigers until the end of 2024.

Cool -  another trade period of sitting on our hands and overrating the list while we hang on to plodders until they're worth nothing. :clapping

It comes as the Tigers told Port Adelaide it does not have enough trade assets to make a play for Ivan Soldo.

Soldo is contracted to the Tigers until next year and while he only played eight games this year given plantar fascia issues he was selected when fit and available.

This masthead revealed Port Adelaide’s interest in Soldo last month to team up with new Western Bulldogs acquisition Jordon Sweet and the Tigers’ determination to keep him.

Port Adelaide football boss Chris Davies made clear the club’s interest in Soldo had not waned on Thursday.

But Richmond wants to play two rucks, believes 27-year-old Soldo has a long-term future past his current deal, and is aware the Power has few draft picks to hand over.

They have 38 & 44.

Both likely to slip a few spots at least but it's worth considering if they're dumb enough to trade both to us so we can package 38+44+45 to GCS for something.

Either the club is keeping their cards close to their chest, or they feel that nank is on the decline which IMO he is. His last 2 years have been rubbish for a so called leader.

Cmon FJ there is another possible scenario here. They just don't rate 23 yo Samson Ryan.

Claw- they do rate Ryan. Sell Soldo for the best draft selection we can obtain is my view as we have Nank, Ryan, Miller and Kosi who can play ruck.

THE TRADES UNLIKELY TO OCCUR

Ivan Soldo (Richmond)

Where is he going: Port Adelaide are keen. Richmond are keen to hold him and say they would only trade him for an excellent pick they know the Power don’t have.

What does it mean: Port’s first pick this year is 38, they will split their future picks on this year’s trades. So given the Richmond hard line he probably stays.

Keep him IMO.

If/when Nank goes down we will struggle with Ryan + Miller/Kosi relief.
