So we aren't getting him if bombers don't release him ?

Richmond doesn't know how to trade or do list management that's plainly obvious for everyone to see. they chop and change and make stuff up on the run, today they say they wont trade for him, tomorrow he'll be worth a 2nd or 3rd rounder lol. Our club is rooted.

Jason Winderlich will never play for Essendon again, hoping to continue career with Richmond

    Jon Ralph

JASON Winderlich has told Richmond he will never return to play at Essendon, jaded by the continued uncertainty over the supplements affair.

The Tigers are urging the Bombers to release the 29-year-old from his contract so they can sign him on a one or two-year deal.

They believe Essendon would get some free agency compensation from that scenario, but none if they refused to release him and he retired.

As recently as two weeks ago Winderlich had told Essendon he would play on but he has reversed that decision.

He did not take part in the supplements affair and is not prepared to through a 2015 season which could see Essendon players sanctioned by ASADA.

Richmond football boss Dan Richardson confirmed Richmond’s interest but said they would not trade for the classy half forward.

Winderlich’s management is investigating what it would take to see Essendon willingly releasing him from that contract, which would expedite his move to the Tigers.

St Kilda last year released Nick Dal Santo from his Saints contract to make him a free agent, securing pick No.25 as compensation.

The Bombers’ compensation would be less than that — or potentially nothing — but given he has ruled out a return to the Dons it is their best hope for a draft pick in return.

Winderlich has always been close with coach James Hird but his exodus from Essendon is directly linked to the dramas that have sucked the fun from football from so many in the playing group.

Hird said on Tuesday in an update to members he still hoped to retain Winderlich.

“We would love to keep Jason and love for him to be at the club. Jason is a very much-loved player at the club so he’s one we will talk through over the next couple of days and see where he is at. We would love him to stay.”

Winderlich kicked 15 goals from his 16 games this year as a dangerous forward and given their list profile the Tigers are willing to take a risk on him.

Richmond is aware of Winderlich’s durability issues but believe he fills a key hole with his pace and forward-line class.

They will continue to go to the draft with their early picks and say recruiting Winderlich does not add expectation to next year.

Rather, they need quick players and will go and find a player they could give them two years of solid service.

The Tigers are keen to retain their many tall players including Tyrone Vickery and Ben Griffiths and are ruling out trades for them.

It looks like both Winderlich and the Tiges are going to wait and see what happens with Paddy before they decide which way to go.
I would love to have him at Richmond. He is a classy forward pocket and he and Shed could create havoc when the ball hits the deck, he is pretty strong in a lot of facets of his game, get him in.
As for the price, well Essendon are being a bit silly knocking back an offer of pick 16 for Paddy. They say it's unders, honestly they aren't in a great bargaining position, the moment Connors makes a move to escalate the case to the grievance tribunal you would imagine pick 16 will be snapped up by the Bombers so it goes no further. Then a 4th round pick should be enough to do the deal on a guy who is hanging in there on a triggered extension as it is, let alone the revelation that he did not participate in Hird's injections program, which gives him a strong moral and probably legal case not to want to be coached by him, so the AFL would have no choice but to accomodate his request.
I like how the club is trying to get him for free so Jimmy has to take pick 60 something and if Jimmy wants extra then he can take Hampson off our hands so he can replace Paddy, otherwise we can just go to the AFL and get him for free.

Spot on

Actual think there is something else Winderlich brings to the table and that's leadership. Would appear he stood up to the "messiah" and said no, that took guts, not many others showed the same

Sad part is I don't think we will be able to avoid this.

If he says he is not playing for Essendon they will delist him before the preseason draft so at worst we will get him then.

Good post.

The other thing Winderlich brings is agility.

But I'm not a huge fan to be honest.

Dan Richardson on Winderlich ...

* Yes we're interested in Winderlich. He fills a need for us in terms of pace.

* Still plenty of water to go under the bridge. Hopeful in acquiring Winderlich as a free agent but he's contracted to Essendon by way of an option clause. We'll work through that in the upcoming days. It's a similar clause to what Nick Dal Santo had at St Kilda before crossing to North. We need Essendon to release Winderlich which is unlikely to happen at this stage. We're not keen to trade for him at this point.

Shows how slow we are if we need a 29 year olds pace😱😱😱

A fit Winderlich is still quick. Whether his body will stand up and he can get on the park more often than not is the main question.

I won't be holding my breath that we will getting Winderlich in any case. Essendon are the worst club to deal with at any time let alone during the trade period. The last time we tried to do a deal they wanted a high second rounder for a out-of-contract Houli when we were offering our 3rd round pick. In the end, we got Houli for nothing in the PSD.

My attitude is if we get him that's fine as he is an upgrade on a few others

But if we don't, no biggie either.

Not worth stressing over TBH  ;D
