Richmond has selected North Ballarat Rebels forward/midfielder Daniel Butler with its fourth pick (selection 67) in the 2014 National Draft.

The 18-year-old impressed this season with his speed, endurance and ability to break the lines.

Injury caused him to miss the AFL Combine, but he did enough to impress the Tigers in 13 appearances at TAC Cup level, where he averaged 17 disposals and 5.6 tackles per game.

Butler also represented Vic Country at the 2014 National Championships, where he played six games and averaged 12 touches and four tackles.

Renew or join as a Richmond member for the 2015 season

“Daniel is an extremely quick midfielder or forward who can make things happen with his speed,” sad Richmond Recruiting Manager Francis Jackson.

“He can break the lines from stoppage but also use his speed defensively with his tackling.

“He also has good goal sense and has a knack of getting to the fall of the ball as a forward.”

Daniel Butler  (North Ballarat Rebels)

Born 3.6.1996, 181cm, 79kg

AFL biography: Exciting medium forward with extreme pace and lateral movement.  Very creative type, dangerous near goal and also has the ability to play midfield or in defence when required.  Averaged 11.8 disposals and 2.3 marks over six games in the under-18 championships playing with Vic Country.

Phil Partington, North Ballarat Rebels: "Daniel has elite pace and elite agility. Unfortunately he won't be testing, he's had knee surgery last week for a torn miniscus, but he played every game for Vic Country this year and was very damaging with his forward pressure. We would have liked him to kick more goals throughout the carnival but his pressure made him one of the best smalls and it was disappointing he got injured right at the end of the year for the Rebels, although he was able to stand up for us and play some good footy under pretty trying conditions."

how many live picks were there after this kid was taken. would be lucky to be half a dozen and one of them was ours.

not my choice and i would have taken 7 or 8 instead many of which didnt get drafted.
similar player who totally out performed butler and did well against men in the wafl was josh deluca.  geez kietel, markov, ramsey abbott. plus a few others in front of butler thanks.

Does anyone know his injury?

You're a doc, shouldn't you know? ;D

Believe it's a knee based on the injury he got in a (semi?) final last year in TAC cup
