Haven't heard anything else as yet.

knuckles kerley and adrian anderson were the only 2 judges not to give him 5 votes!!! knuckles we know is biased because he is a south australian thus gave griffen the 5 and anderson, well we know he is a total tool and knows jack poo about footy and most likely prefers the dogs over the tigers

Richmond midfielder Brett Deledio has edged out the Western Bulldogs' Ryan Griffen to win this year's NAB Rising Star Award with the two young stars dominating the final voting.

Deledio polled 43 out of a maximum of 45 votes to become the first Richmond player to win the award, with Griffen finishing a clear second on 34 votes. Fremantle's David Mundy (19 votes), Melbourne's Brock McLean (15 votes) and Brisbane's Jed Adcock (14 votes) were the only other players to poll in double figures.

The votes were cast in a 5-4-3-2-1 format by nine judges with Deledio and Griffen getting the nod as the top two players from each judge except former Richmond champion Kevin Bartlett, who gave Deledio the maximum five votes but did not give Griffen a single vote.

To be eligible a player had to be aged under 21 at the start of the season, have played fewer than ten games at the start of the season, and he must not have been suspended during the season. One player was nominated from each round of the season.

 
 
Deledio becomes the first number one draft pick to win the award in his debut season although St Kilda's Nick Riewoldt, the number one pick in the 2000 draft, won the award in his second season in 2002 after an injury-marred first season in 2001 meant he was still eligible.

The 18-year-old from Kyabram not only played every game this season but averaged 15 disposals, four marks and two tackles per game and also kicked a handy 14 goals in his first season with his electrifying pace already drawing comparisons to last year's Brownlow Medal winner Chris Judd.

Deledio also showed his versatility by playing as a midfielder and defender in his first season while he even played as a key forward in the Tigers' round 15 win over Essendon at the MCG.

His best performance of the season was against Hawthorn in round 21 when he had 26 disposals with his exciting dash around the wing helping set up the Tigers' winning goal in the final minute.

Griffen performed superbly to finish in second place given he played just 17 games for the season after injury interrupted pre-season.

The number three pick in last year's draft impressed with his poise and balance and ability to beat tackles and kick the ball accurately over long distances.

His best performance came in round 17 when opposed to Geelong star Gary Ablett he had 21 possessions at half-back in a best-afield performance.

While future midfield champions in Deledio and Griffen dominated this year's voting, this year's crop of nominees also featured plenty of exciting future key position stars headed by third placed getter Mundy as well as Collingwood's Travis Cloke, Essendon pair Kepler Bradley and Jason Laycock, Hawthorn pair Lance Franklin and Jarryd Roughead, Bulldogs' ruckman Will Minson and Geelong full-forward Nathan Ablett.

The Brisbane Lions headed the list of nominations for this year's award with four while the Hawks had three with reigning premiers Port Adelaide, minor premiers Adelaide, Sydney and the Kangaroos the only clubs not to earn a Rising Star nominee this season.

well lets state some facts here! kb for the first time in ages is right on the money!!!
facts are facts  and griffen was nominated because of his "presumed" bog performance against the cats where  he had 21 possessions on gary ablett jnr! now how the hell does that earn him a nomination when ablett kicked 3 goals on him and had 27 possessions. poo just becaue he baulked him once and ran off him in that passage of play all and sundry were licking his bollocks! now imo when a hbflanker plays on a hfflanker and the hff kicks 3 goals and has 27 touches , i dont beleive that is an indication the defender won the dual  and deserved a nomination!

Congrats Lids! 

However a few points i have to make:

1. Why are Demetriou and Anderson on the selection panel, since when are they player experts, i thought they worked in the Administration side of things? (Anderson as everybody knows is just an out and out idiot!)

2. Kerley giving Griffen 5 votes and Bartlett not giving Griffen a single vote stinks of bias!

3. Was Kepler Bradley hungover?

4. Is it me or does Will Minson sound like a genious/extremely smart person?

Must be Richmond's first award winner since Rioli won the Norm Smith in 1982!

As for the judges - Demetriou played for North so fair enough but to have two admin blokes on the panel and one of them Anderson ???.

he had a good yr and had better games than that geelomg game but the doggies and media pumped up his profile way to much  adcock, mclean, frankilin, and the lions selwin had a better yr than griffen just not as much yahoo/hooha from the media

* Cambo told him to enjoy his footy and be smart with your money as your time in footy doesn't last long.

* Most surprising aspect of footy was the roar of the crowd when he had the footy.

* For the young ladies out there - he's single. Cogs will be his date to the brownlow lol.

* Terry's given him a license to kick torps.

* Said he needs to get fitter to play midfield and hit the gym. Put on say another 5kg to get to around 88-90kg.

In fairness X, Lids got nominated in a week he wasn't a standout. The nominees except for the first round or two are meant to be get the nod based on a few good games in succession and that's what they did with Lids and Griffen but not with Nathan Ablett when the judges went for the hype surrounding the surname after one game. When the dogs were coming home like a train late in the season to pinch a finals spot Griffen didn't look out of place although I agree with you about his game on Ablett. Still 17 games and a 13 possie average is a fair effort for a first year player.
