Scoring
« on: July 12, 2015, 06:41:29 PM »
Our forward structure must get better.

There is & will be a lot of talk this week about Freo's problem kicking goals but they have more points in their points for column than we do.

Even Stkilda has kicked more points than us.

Friday night we could've blasted the cheating scum out of the park but we squandered the chance with atrocious forward 50 entries all night.
Could only imagine how more productive it would've been if we got a small goal sneak tackling machine like Gartlett when we had the chance.

We need to find more than what we have currently.
The club that keeps giving.

Ideally our 2nd tier would improve, allowing Lids, Martin, Chimp predominantly fwd

Theyd run riot, if the ball got there

Our forward line lacks a quality quick and skillful crumbing small forward but we have still shown we can pour on the goals in quarter bursts even against the top sides when we click, use the ball well going forward and kick straight. We blasted Freo, Swans and the Pies away with 7-8 goal quarters. Problem is we don't start with or sustain that intensity and quality over four quarters. Our last three games have produced first halves of 3.5, 3.7 and 4.5. On Friday night, we butchered goalscoring chances by trying to hit that one extra target inside F50. Dusty, for example, had two clear chances to run to 50 under no physical pressure and launch for goal, yet both times he tried to pass it off to a contest where our lone forward was heavily outnumbered. I'd reckon I could count 10 times where we stuffed ourselves up by trying to be too unselfish.

I actually think we've improved our kicking inside 50 - our best is far better than at any stage of Dimmas time at the club.
The issue is:-
A. Consistently delivering like we did against Fremantle
B. Our ability to hold the ball inside 50 (every week we lose the tackle count inside 50)
C. A high quality small forward who can do B but also snag goals at the fall

"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

This and how long have we been crying out for a small forward for but they don't listen.

The best crumbing small forward in AFL history would have made 2 parts of 5 eighths of f-all difference on Friday night.  We delivered like 5hyte straight to an opposition backman or to an outnumbered option almost every time.  Not even GAJ on steroids would have made any difference to that.  But keep on thinking we are only a small crumbing forward from the flag if it floats your boat.

Still gotta get the ball to them or near them Bents, something we failed miserably at on Friday night.  stuffing Superman would have made no difference but keep blaming the lack of a small forward if you need to.

The Tigers' tall focus hides a small weakness

Nathan Schmook

There has been a lot of talk about Damien Hardwick's three-pronged forward line and the role it has played in Richmond's recent run of form. But with Ben Griffiths sidelined and delivery poor on Friday night, an effective small forward would have been invaluable. Steven Morris came into the team to face Carlton and was deployed as a defensive forward, with a two tackles and one handball his only stats in the first half. He finished with three disposals and three tackles. Formerly a hard-nosed small defender, Morris' transformation into a defensive forward has not yet worked and the Tigers could be better served in their top-four push by a creative player complementing their tall timber.

Having Knights on our list is a real tease .

A fit Knights will add another dimension to our forward line.

But don't hold your breath.
