Fremantle coach Ross Lyon can't wait for Saturday to try and take revenge against Richmond, the team which handed the Dockers their first loss of the AFL season.

Fremantle remained a game clear on top of the AFL ladder with a 42-point win over Carlton at Domain Stadium on Saturday, but the Dockers couldn't shake the lowly Blues until the final quarter.

It was enough for Fremantle to improve to a 13-2 record after round 16 and remain four-points clear of West Coast and two ahead of Hawthorn. They did, though, lose small forward Hayden Ballantyne to a shoulder injury.

Richmond beat the Dockers in Round 10 and Lyon can't wait to get a chance at redemption against the Tigers on Saturday.

"We know that Richmond are a really massive challenge at the MCG," he said.

"We are excited about that, we can't wait to get on the plane and they knocked us over here (in Perth), so we understand what they bring to the table.

"It's a big challenge but you can't sneak around in league football, you have to earn your position.

"I don't think it hurts us (to play Richmond again so soon). It's exciting."

Tigers 'capable' of beating Fremantle again, says Chaplin

RICHMOND defender Troy Chaplin says the Tigers are every chance to 'do the double’ over ladder leaders Fremantle this Saturday at the MCG.

The Tigers became the first side to beat the Dockers this season when they opened their round 10 game in Perth with an eight-goal first quarter.

"(That game) was a bit of an anomaly, but we know that we're capable of beating Fremantle," Chaplin told reporters on Tuesday morning at Punt Road. 

"It's going to be very hard to replicate that, there's not many times that teams have come out and done that against a Ross Lyon-coached side.

The Tigers will need to find a quick fix to the dramatic fourth quarter fade-out that let St Kilda back in with a sniff last Sunday evening.

"It was disappointing, we went away from what was working for us in the second and third quarters," Chaplin said.   

"We just lost critical contests and our ball movement going forward certainly hindered our opportunities.

"We just couldn't win contested footy and we didn't tackle very well."

SUMMARY


The Tigers continue to impress by racking up wins despite not playing their best football. Their 16-point victory over St Kilda on Sunday came despite a flat last quarter where the Saints were allowed to boot six unanswered goals and destroy the Tigers' three-quarter time 52-point lead. They've now won eight of their last nine games. Meanwhile, the Dockers have lost a few players to injury recently, including Hayden Ballantyne to a season-ending pectoral complaint, but are still riding high on top of the table. They've lost just two games this season, which includes their round 15 belting at the hands of Hawthorn, but remain one game clear of crosstown rivals West Coast on the ladder.

THE SIX POINTS

1. The Tigers stunned the Dockers earlier this season with an eight-goal first quarter and 12 goals to five before the main break, which led to Ross Lyon's men suffering their first loss for the season.

2. Dustin Martin was the star of the night with 34 disposals, eight marks and one goal.

3. Since that night, the Tigers have won five of six games and have kicked an average score of over 83 points. In comparison, the Dockers have won four games with an average of over 70.

4. The Dockers are the second-ranked clearance side in 2015 averaging 42.8 per game, while the Tigers are ranked equal 15th with 36.2 per game.

5. Richmond has dominated Fremantle at the MCG with eight wins from 11 contests, but the Dockers have hit back in recent years to win two of the last three.

6. While plenty of Dockers have trailed off in recent weeks, Chris Mayne has improved his standing on the Official AFL Player Ratings from 186 in round 15 to 163 overall going into this round.

IT'S A BIG WEEK FOR …
Shaun Hampson.

With Ty Vickery due back next week, Hampson has another chance to impress as the second ruck option after being handed more responsibility against the Saints on Sunday with Ivan Maric playing forward. The challenge doesn't come much bigger than Aaron Sandilands, and Hampson will be keen to stand out.
