The basics? What are Hawthorn still learning?

Don't start changing the specifics now

Well you only have my word for it but the implication was there, either way, I didn't actually mention any specifics in the initial comment so how could I have changed them?

We kicked ourselves out of a win pure & simple. Today we missed Vickery who would slot them goals. l reckon we were the better side on the day but if you miss set shots like that its a bad day on the oval. Game had me on the edge of the seat all day. It was a good game for us & next week will be the real test. Hampson going off allowed Sandilands to get around. Griffiths didn't look right after grabbing his ankle. we need a strong body tagger as Hunt is not strong enough. Can Conca come in ?? Will Edwards be ready. Vickery will be back in. We played the top team & we lost it in that last minute by not passing it out like we did all day. A mere slit to the throat as defenders were not alert to man up after that kickout. 5 v 1 so where were all those other spare Tigers. Waiting for someone else to do the job. They will learn from this mistake. Goal kicking training this week. l like the game plan. We have the players to go all the way this year. l believe in the players & the Coaches who will win a final.

However l will say this. Fremantle will not win a game in the finals this year. They are not as good as everyone thinks.  ;D

They were out on the wings where the ball was supposed to be kicked in the first place :banghead

I'm also assuming the four not there Richmond players were near the boundary lines thinking the ball would go there...

Dissappointing loss, a pity Houlis kick in has been blown out of proportion. We lost it in front of goal, But the boys put in a great 4 quarters effort

There were so many Docker players in the corridor at that kick in. When your closing down a game you don't leave them free to work over 1 player. Regardless of the kick in by Houli our players should have manned up. If the ball did go to the boundry & they won the spill it would have ended up in the corridor of a docker player with ease. Players must pick up players in the dying minutes to create a even contest & that was where we failed at that moment. We kept them in the game all day when we should have closed it out with all them missed shots. the umpires kept them in the game & so did we with our  bomb the ball forward to their spare player to cut it off. Too many times going to the 2 v 1 option will never work. Houli mistake sticks right out cause it cost us a goal & lead but those set shots missed by key figures was what really cost us the game. 3 very bad umpire mistakes gifted them goals. We are blazing away at the ball with these long kicks into the forward line when a split second could have choose the better option.  :banghead We will learn from this.  :gotigers

yes we lost the game in front of goal no doubt, but the likes of houli, taylor hunt make mistakes at crucial times .They fumble ,panic or go to ground far too often...Have a look at floss you need a sledge hammer to knock him down.whereas the other 2 if a fly lands them on they tend to go to ground

I thought that if you look at that game there was more to like than dislike. We are 3-4 class players short of being a top 4 side.
We need a quality small forward, a gun mid another number 1 ruck (sorry Ivvy) and a utility mid who can drift forward and kick goals.
Reckon 2 of those 4 can be developed from our existing list with the others being a must trade/free agency.

Two things that did my head in all day yesterday was how many times our players just slapped it on the boot after winning a centre clearance, despite having time & space -Miles & Martin seemed to be the two main offenders -and Maric repeatedly tapping it to opposition advantage.

i actually dont have a real problem with the rushed kick out of the middle, as long as your forwards can read the play and play in front.

the caveat is if there is a loose defender set specifically for that kick

It's fair enough still in the middle of the pack but these were out in the clear - Fremantle's disposal in similar positions was far more measured & composed. Miles always does because that's his skill level....but when the likes of Martin & even Deledio start doing it too it's frustrating....Martin in particular has being doing it all year. Was as if everyone had been possessed by the ghost of Shane Tuck.
