LISTEN | Is Daniel Rioli worth what is being reported? @kanecornes doesn't think so.

https://x.com/traderadio/status/1843765392835260784

"We have cried and sooked and moaned about Josh Battle giving St Kilda pick 8, but we aren't talking about the fact people think Dan Rioli who is 27 years old being worth pick 6. Why is there not an outcry on this one? This would be the most irresponsible trade since Jack Bowes."

- Kane on the projected price for Dan Rioli

Because one was out of contract and the other has 3/4 years left…..

Spot on but don’t enable a professional troll
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

TIGERS’ STAGGERING EARLY ASK FOR CLUB CHAMPION

Fox Sports
October 10th, 2024

Richmond initially asked for Gold Coast’s two early first-round picks in negotiations over Daniel Rioli.

Nine’s Tom Morris reports the Tigers’ intital price for their 2024 best and fairest winner was picks 6 and 13.

It would have been one of the priciest trades in modern footy history had Gold Coast accepted it, well ahead of deals like Adam Cerra to Carlton (for pick 6 and a future third), Tim Taranto to Richmond (for picks 12 and 19) and Izak Rankine to Adelaide (for pick 5 with late swaps).

It would have arguably surpassed the price for Jeremy Cameron’s move to Geelong, which cost the Cats picks 13, 15, 20 and a future fourth with two future seconds coming back.

“The Gold Coast Suns understandably said no in what was probably a Hail Mary from the Tigers,” Morris said on Nine News.

Pick 6 is still expected to make up the core of the deal for the Tigers halfback, who will turn 28 in April.

The Suns’ picks don’t hold as much value as other selections because they have so many early picks, and it’s well-known they need to trade picks out to avoid them being consumed when the club matches a bid for academy product Leo Lombard in the middle of the first round.

This is a sensational analysis, so on the money.

GCS has a chance to really clean up here, taking Rioli + using cheap picks to get Lombard.

I wouldn't be trading them 2025 currency though, only 2024 3rd rounders for the Lombard bid.

IMO i think what has stuffed us up here is the pies and blues chasing these picks for Houston. Its created a demand issue, and we now have others offering more for these crucial picks thats reducing our bargaining power.

And then we keep him and he plays for us off half back problem solved. Papley requested a trade with no bad blood (dad was developing bipolar from memory). Dodo screwed the 3 way trade and Papley carried on like a professional and kicked goals.

No way should we part with Rioli for picks less than 2x first rounders and both picks need to be within the top 18

Keep him , we don’t need to trade , tell the GC and the media trolls to FO, I would do 6 and 13 with one of 2nd round picks going back , we don’t owe them anything!

Agree it was always the case but supporters lose sight of reality when it comes to the draft.

6 and 23 is fair imo.

13 and 20 for Bolton well thats a different matter that is what picks 10 and 18 could blow out to. I think 13 and 14 with something decent going back to freo is on the cards.

One scenario is Offer wce Baker and 18 for pick 3. They get to keep pick 14 barass  get 18  and Baker or something along these lines.
Its a  win win.

Gold Coast list manager Craig Cameron has shared the latest on the club’s pursuit of Daniel Rioli, as well as a status update on the in-demand Pick 13.

Speaking on AFL Trade Radio on Friday afternoon, Cameron confirmed a Rioli deal wouldn’t settled until next week as the clubs haggle over trade value.

“It will go into next week for Dan (Rioli),” Cameron said.

“We understand Richmond’s demands, but hopefully they can understand ours.

“We think Pick 6 is a very good pick in this year’s draft, and that is what we have on offer.”

Regarding their No. 13 pick, the Suns know it is highly valuable but haven’t shed any light on where it’s likely to end up as they prepare to match a bid for incoming Academy graduate Leo Lombard.

“There is no clubhouse leader (for the pick),” Cameron said on Friday.

“We have had a few clubs come to us with offers for Pick 13. We will give teams time to work out their best offers to come back to us. That pick is hot property.”

If Pick 23 heads elsewhere, the Tigers could demand No. 6 and No. 29 (early second-round) in exchange for Rioli.

6+23

Take Rioli and 51+61+70 for 400+ points towards Lombard to sweeten the deal since we won't use those picks anyway.

Freo can give us 10+11+18 for Bolton and Baker and we can pay some Bolton wage as well.

Gives us 1, 6, 10, 11, 18, 20, 23, 24

Q: Ralphy, honest question, do you think Dan Rioli is worth more than pick 6 by itself?

A: No. He isn’t even worth pick 6. But it’s what the Suns are offering and it’s what the Tigers will get given he is contracted and the Suns are getting a current best and fairest winner. Fans can be upset when comparing him to Houston trade but Suns are very keen so will pay up
