Draft was ok, Rioli might be a reach but he addressed an urgent need , was easily the best small forward still on the board and arguably has the highest ceiling of any player in the draft...of course whether or not he ever hits that ceiling is another matter .....Hackson still overlooks the obvious with later picks though IMO - Ben Crocker was a must a pick 50 was staggered he lasted until 65...(so yes we weren't the only ones who overlooked him - difference is Hackson seems to do it every year)Hartley and Glass-McCasker, even though the latter didn't get picked up , the same with pick 67...he went first pick in the rookie draft anyway...suspect Broad would've still been there at our first rookie pick ....our cause isn't helped by our failure to trade back into the draft...there was some highly rated sliders this year....Collins, Dunkley, Hardwick , Balic would've been nice (assuming FJ noticed them)...even Hospital Mathieson, who I was dead against taking at pick 12 would've been a good get in the late 30's....
As for trading & recruiting - focused way too much time on chasing Yarran which hamstrung us in making other deals...and we still seem to recruit as if we're a bottom 4 side, rather than a side supposedly challenging for the Top 4. Looking forward to the day we have list managers who aren't obsessed with Port & their rejects.
