So, what's being said, is that ALTHOUGH the discussion on footy forums has no bearing on corporate decisions made by the affiliated teams,  posters still need to exercise a level of cautious, political correctness when voicing an opinion,as the result can hurt a professional player's feelings.....
 Is that correct?

Pretty much. Freedom of speech ends at the point where others 'feelings' begin.
