Sheehan said players like Rioli, the cousin of Richmond’s Daniel and Hawthorn’s Cyril, showed the comprehensive depth in the 2017 draft crop.

Clubs like Carlton plan to take as many as seven picks to cash in on the depth of talent.

“There are not a lot of talls early in the draft but the midfielders taken early are ready to run. It won’t take clubs long to debut those boys,’’ Sheehan said.

“When we talk about depth there are definitely 15 to 20 of those boys at the state screenings you could see being drafted.

Tigers focus on National Draft

Tony Greenberg

October 26, 2016

“We’ll reassess this year’s draft now that our first pick doesn’t come in until 27,” said the Tigers’ General Manager – Football Talent, Dan Richardson.

“We’ve certainly stocked up on draft picks for 2017 . . .

“Both drafts look like being strong drafts, so we’re confident we’ll get some good players in.

“More than likely now it comes down to best available, but we’ll need to spend some time working through that in the lead-up to the National Draft at the end of November.”

The Tigers hold picks 27, 56, 82 and 100 in the draft, after trading for talented, mature-age midfield recruits Dion Prestia (Gold Coast) and Josh Caddy (Geelong).

Can we trade next years draft picks for this year with another club, eg our pick 6 next year for someones pick 6 this year?

Though this is FJ's last draft in charge so he could well be our first or second pick.....

So if we maintain the 39/5 list we'll only have 2 live picks, Short upgrade & 2 rookie picks...not counting category B rookies.....

Why is the article in today's Age about Whitfield saying we traded our 2017 1st rounder to GWS. That's BS we didn't do that?

We traded our future 2nd IFRC.
