If Ralph comes a knockin on Balmey's door this week to say "let's start talkling contract"

I'd be saying "nah Ralph we'll go with your original plan, end of the season sunshine"

Yep I'm not sold at all.
If anything I'd be thinking what can get for him.

I think some have blown smoke up this young kids backside.

Lots of Hype
No substance
Reckon his aspirations are greater than his ability

lets hope you are right

I reckon he has a tendency to write off new players way too early

Yes and no.

He is only 19. He has played a grand total of 7 senior games.

There quite a few people writing Rance off after more games and he's turned into our best KPP back ever!

He's been given bad advice from Ralph Carr.

If you watch the seconds, he has been carving it up more in the midfield, but we continue to shoehorn him in as a small forward in the seniors. That clearly is not his position.

He clearly has talent and ability. It is our job to harness those abilities and nurture them. He is a slow burn because of this. Many want him to be Walters from Freo overnight. We need to give him time. I'm sure if we're patient, he will reward us.

He showed a bit last year, he just looks like he’s going backwards this season. We have better options in the 2’s
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Agree on both points.

I understand  that there are sympathies flying around with "oh he's under Carr's influence" but pardon my ignorance but is Shai Bolton not allowed to speak for himself? One thing which I respect about Brandon Ellis is back in 2013 when his contract was up in the air he said  "They started talking to my manager the week before the Melbourne game ... and I said whatever they offer me, just take it - I want to sign,''

And Shai can't do the same?

Different situation. Carr has probably convinced the guy he is a superstar and he is worth more than the initial offer from the club. I'm sure others have pumped his tyres up too. At 19, he's probably just gullible and you can't hang him for that.

Maybe Freo have made an offer to Carr and Carr is trying to milk Richmond for more money.

If Freo are willing to make a decent offer for him we should take it.

Doubt anyone will make a decent offer based on current form. Best thing we could do from here is keep him red hot in the two's if the feeling was he was gawn. For now, give him a crack in the ones and hopefully he finds his feet this week.

Disastrous play from Carr, he got last year pitch perfect but this one has missed the mark. Honestly, I could easily see him getting delisted end of this year. Wonder if Carr will keep looking after him if that happens......  :whistle

For sure.

If nothing else, we could trade him for a 2020 pick to ensure we grab Maurice Jnr.

Dropped after the Giants game, Shai Bolton was tried in defence against the Zebras and performed steadily.

“Dimma [senior coach Damien Hardwick] wanted to see if he could do it [play down back]. He looked OK. I’m sure he’s got a lot to learn,” Bolton said.

“He’s only 19 Shai, he’ll keep evolving his game, developing.”
