Every year we hear it's a weak draft there is always sliders to.

Our blueprint is currently more based around role players so finding a need and filling that need with a player who excels at a particular role. Other clubs may have different philosophies and look more for all round players. It essentially means that we may pick players more out of leftfield because they are specific to our needs and without being worldbeaters we can get them lower down in the draft, if a more credentialed player slides then even better.

The only time we do need the higher picks is when we have a need within our elite core of players which at the moment we don't.

So, in a nut shell. We have traded Deledio out for picks 20 and 25? After Lids's last three seasons i think that is a good trade. In the mean time it freed up a spot for Caddy. Looking over the trading periods of 2016/17 and our subsequent drafting then i think we have done very well.

GC were never going to trade him this year, new coach wouldnt allow it

Trust me, they were open to it.....they know they're up against it to keep him beyond next year - even if the AFL step in and offer him an "ambassador role".......

Not unless we go from premiers to wooden spooners in one year, the AFL finds us "not guilty" of tanking like they did Melbourne and GC don't match our offer to Lynch.....

...or one of WC or more likely Freo finish last and Bolton has a breakout year then decides to go home and not walk into the PSD....

yep. 3 picks of which youd expect at least 2 to make it as quality players to suit our needs. plus we held onto Miles which, may not seem like much but for me its a win for 2018.
