I have changed my opinion on our need to hunt for an experienced key forward. I felt we desperately needed to recruit another KPF this off season but now I'd rather look to the draft.
Given our success this year with only one KPF up front, and the likes of Bolton and Stengle coming through the ranks, I cannot see us playing two talls in attack next season. Just doesn't look to be room.
The dilemma we have is that in Riewoldt we have one of the best KPFs in the game, who suits our gameplan perfectly and who we need cover for. But realistically, this cover is only for if he gets injured or his form really falls away. To get a reasonable cover for Jack talent wise we are going to have to pay over the odds, and are we going to be able to find someone who will be happy biding their time at VFL level if required?
And we managed reasonably well when Jack missed a few games with that eye injury.
So I am kind of thinking that we need to try and draft a couple of taller KPF prospects who are athletic enough to reach most contests in the forward line rather than being immediate impact players. The sort that might take a little time to develop.
I am not sure who is coming through who might fit that bill, just saying....
