Great to see some negativity coming back to this forum, all this back slapping about winning the premiership was starting to make things a bit boring. :thumbsup

Getting Lynch next year should help ease the pain.... :shh

If they get naish for 25 when he woulda gone pick 13ish, and we only drop 2 spots in the draft, its probably an okay trade. Perhaps they feel their pick 15 target will slide anyway.

You have to remember to if we have to match a bid with 17 pick 20 will come down a few spots because of remaining points if not we gain 3 picks in top 25 instead of 2 we had,one for Naish that is smart trading.I trust Balme our trade period worked well last year.

Schache - not really, Stringer - yes....

....and although not that annoyed about it... considering Melbourne only gave up pick 66 for Balic, also thought we could've offered one of our a picks in the 50's (and maybe Conca too) for him...

So many clubs turned of Schache for a reason him and his management handling was poor we got burned with Yarran to.
Miles is good depth and may improve to.Go go the draft get two talls I'm happy.

Pretty sure we turned off Schache cause his manager did a few things that really pee'd us off. Signing a contract mid year and then asking for 400k did the trick.

Why clubs traded picks but not players

THE FINAL day flurry of trades also included some deals that only involved draft picks without any players involved.

Here is our understanding of why those deals went down, as clubs eye extra points for this year's draft and next year's intake with father-son and academy picks coming through.

The trade

The Brisbane Lions receive a first-round draft selection (No.15 at the time of trade) and third-round draft selection (No.52 at the time of trade).
Richmond receives a second-round draft selection (No.20 at the time of trade) and on-traded second-round draft selection (No.25 at the time of trade).

Why?
This is likely to revolve around the prospects both clubs have available at this year's draft. By trading back their first pick, the Tigers now have No.17, 20 and 25 at their disposal – and a bid for father-son Patrick Naish seems likely to fall in that range. By moving up, the Lions could get their picks in before a bid comes for academy tall Connor Ballenden, meaning they can just use later selections to match that bid.

------------------------------

The trade

Geelong receives a future third-round draft selection.
Richmond receives a third-round draft selection (No.53 at the time of trade).

Why?
The father-sons have to come into the clubs' thinking in this deal. Richmond has Naish – a wiry but talented midfielder from the Northern Knights – coming through this season and he could attract a top-20 bid. The Cats have Oscar Brownless, the son of Billy, eligible to join as a father-son pick next year.

Tigers boost 2017 draft options

Richmond completed two deals on the final day of the AFL’s 2017 trade period, both involving an exchange of picks with other league clubs in the upcoming national draft.

The Tigers received two second-round picks from Brisbane – No. 20 and No. 25 – in return for their first pick, No. 15, and a third-round selection, No. 52.

And the Club sent its 2018 third-round pick to Geelong in return for the Cats’ third-round selection this year, No. 53.

Richmond now has picks 17, 20, 25, 53, 55, 74, 92 and 110 in the 2017 national draft, which will take place on Friday, November 24 in Sydney.

Will there be any decent talls left in the 20's?

I'm hoping we can at least grab Tom McCartin and I've heard he's on our radar, not sure he's worth a second rounder at this stage but he may not be there at 53 either....
