OUT-OF-CONTRACT Gold Coast co-captain Tom Lynch will return to Melbourne for the Suns' mid-season break as his future remains in limbo.

Nursing an injured knee, Lynch will head back to his native Victoria in the coming days to spend time with family and friends.

The 25-year-old didn't travel to China with the rest of his teammates last week, continuing rehabilitation on his knee that worsened in the round six loss to Adelaide.

Lynch is not expected to meet with any potential suitors, instead heading bayside to celebrate his sister Bethany's 21st birthday around her commitments with Richmond's VFLW team, Neil Balme has been requested to MC the special day at the request of the Lynch family.

It is also expected 2 of Lynch's former team mates Dion Prestia & Josh Caddy will also be in attendance as well as Bethany's new boyfriend Richmond first year player Noah Balta.

The most sought-after free agent in this year's pool, Lynch will be hoping for a return against Geelong in the club's first match at Metricon Stadium this season in round 11.

Lynch's visit will be his last trip to Melbourne before the Suns play against North Melbourne in round 16.

It is understood Collingwood, Hawthorn and Richmond have enquired about Lynch's services beyond this season.

His partner has moved north this year against her will to be by his side with the Suns but only until the end of the year was her terms hopeful they can be brain washed to convince them to stay under new coach Stuart Dew who also really doesnt want to be here but we are paying him $3,000,000 a year

Suns chairman Tony Cochrane said earlier this month that there was no timeline pressure on Lynch's decision, But i have been sleeping outside his door and driving him to and from the club to insure he does not jump on a plane and head to Richmond.

"When you're dealing with someone who is as important to the club as Tom is, and we've got a lot of them, you don't hand out deadlines," But i would kiss his ass and tuck him into bed every night if required Cochrane told Macquarie Sports Radio.

"I don't think that's the way to win friends and influence people But i will do what ever it takes

"What we're trying to do is set up the right atmosphere and the right conditions by which Tom feels really compelled.

"We're putting such a compelling case forward that (hopefully) Tom feels absolutely compelled and feels sorry for us enough to stay.

"There's no deadlines involved here, we'll do whatever we have to do to retain Tom and fight very hard to retain him."

TOM LYNCH (Gold Coast Suns) - Restricted Free Agent:

It would be a shock if he stayed at Gold Coast.

He is adamant he won’t meet with clubs or consider their offers mid-year, but Gold Coast is increasingly fatalistic about him coming south.

The three suitors are Richmond, Collingwood and Hawthorn, his management having told others in no uncertain terms he wouldn’t consider them.

Plenty of reports about favourites for his services, but considering how dramatically things can change during trade time, ridiculous to suggest one is the outright favourite.

He isn’t seen to want to be a saviour, so Collingwood’s recent improvement will help him if he goes there considering the forward line alone wouldn’t rise or fall on his performances.

Gold Coast could consider matching a deal given they have huge cap space and would consider six-year deals and offer more than Victorian clubs.

Who knows what happens then, given neither of those three clubs would want to give up multiple first-rounders for Lynch, which would be the asking price.

Lynch is in Melbourne for the mid-season break, with many of those around him adamant he will be back in Victoria next year.

Figures bandied about of up to $1.5 million don’t marry with what those close to him are saying, which is that money won’t define his decision.

Instead he wants to play at a successful club that can win him a premiership, even if that means accepting $1 million a year (what a sacrifice!) instead of selling his services to the highest bidder.

Tom Lynch

Estimated value: $1.2 million - $1.5 million

Interested clubs: Richmond, Collingwood, Hawthorn

What’s going on:
The Gold Coast star is weighing up his options, with the biggest money currently on the table coming from the Suns. The Tigers, Magpies and Hawks are all low-balling on the contract with the selling point being success and bigger earnings outside the salary cap.

Will he go: Staying put isn’t out of the question, but the on-field form of the Suns isn’t helping their cause. Lynch is very unlikely to be on the Gold Coast next year.

Go-Stay? 95-5

Griffiths (already retired but still on our TPP books)
Hampson (will/should retire)
Miles (most likely move elsewhere because he can't get an AFL game)
Drummond (sadly injuries have continually interrupted his career)

That's 4 who if we lost wouldn't affect our AFL team. The bulk of that would go a long way to paying Lynch's salary.

If Grigg were to retire at the end of this season as well, then that would definitely make it easily possible.

No.
He was contracted to us for 2017 and left at the end of 2016. We thus payed the majority of his first year (2017) at GWS and the giants payed a bit of it and then pay all of 2018 and 2019.

georgies, we did reportedly agree to "pay a substantial portion" of Lids' GWS contract.

RICHMOND will pay a portion of Brett Deledio’s new contract at Greater Western Sydney, in what was a key element that secured the deal between the clubs.

Deledio has agreed to a new contract with GWS, in which he will be paid about $1.5 million over three seasons.

But the Tigers, who were due to pay Deledio more than $700,000 in 2017, will pay a substantial portion of the star’s new contract, which makes him a relatively cheap purchase for the Giants, purely in dollar terms.
