With the new ruck rules we may need a backup ruck
Smith might fill a gap for a years or two, AFL level rucks are hard to find

New rule may require a back up ruckman
I would back our coaches to get Smith up and RUNNING

They'll have their work cut out for them.

He reminds me of Ben Griffiths. Ticks all the boxes physically, athletically and skills wise, but has little intensity and lacks competitiveness.

Should be looking at Zac Clarke for a rookie position if we’re just after a backup.

EDIT: Disregard for now - only current source seems to be Ricky Nixon on twitter.

Trade Period: Your club's state of play

Sarah Black
afl.com.au

RICHMOND

Trade and free agency ins: Tom Lynch, future third-round selection (Gold Coast)

Trade and free agency outs:
Reece Conca, Corey Ellis, Anthony Miles, future third-round selection

Still in play: After months of speculation, Richmond landed former Gold Coast key forward Tom Lynch, its main target during the trade period. Out-of-contract Sam Lloyd has yet to officially cross to the Western Bulldogs, despite manager Robbie D'Orazio telling NAB AFL Trade Radio last Tuesday the talented forward will be at the Kennel next year. Premiership forward Jacob Townsend is still out of contract but Neil Balme told SEN the Tigers "wouldn’t be unhappy to keep him". Rookie small forward Tyson Stengle has continued to be linked to a move back home to Adelaide.

Picks (as at Friday, October 12): 17, 37, 74, 92

Rightly or wrongly I still have a feeling we are up to something. Scully did visit Punt Road on Tuesday. If we are not looking at anyone because there is zero cap space then why invite him at all? Why did Dimma and some senior players take Dylan Shiel out after the Brownlow?

My feeling is we are looking at an opportunity to arise to strike. I might be wrong but there are too many sneaky signs to ignore.  Even if nothing happens, I am happy to take our picks to the draft.

Anyway, we have till Wednesday afternoon to find out.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

This to me is how I see our trading so far. In all the evaluation of the the Lych in has not really addressed that  we also lost the compensation pick for Conca. Love getting Lynch but overall we have given up three players for a upgrade of a third round pick next year. Not exactly playing hard ball are we.

Hope we have more plans.

I tend to agree.

I almost think the media have Scully as a cert to Hawthorn because they came out and said "no chance to the tigers"when the rumours started. No doubt the narrative will be "last minute shock/twist" if he does come to us.

If anything did happen it would be something totally unexpected and out there due to a club being so desperate on the last day. For example, how desperate are Adelaide for a top 5 pick to gain access to a home grown SA U18 star such as Rankine and could we get in on the action to make it happen?

Adelaide: picks 8, 13 & Brad Crouch ---> picks 5 (Rankine?), 17 & Stengle
Brisbane - pick 5, (future?) 3rd round ----> picks 8, 13 & Townsend
Richmond - pick 17, Stengle, Townsend ----> Brad Crouch, Brisbane's (future?) 3rd round.

cannot go into next year with all that experience out the door not replaced by at least one new signing.... surely they've got something going on behind the scenes.....
