I think our coaching should of come unde heat more from last Friday they had a shocker from A to Z.
Lets face it our last couple of months of the season was far from awe inspiring, all were waiting to see if we could flick the switch in the finals. We got lucky meeting Hawks who basically were the equivalent of a 8th or 9th position team if the draw was uncompromised.
The prelim result was a combination of injuries, poor form, matchup issues and a red hot Pies team who could not put a foot wrong. Our level of performance from finals last season no doubt would have beaten Pies but we just didnt have the same momentum we had last year and paid the ultimate price.
True. Hopefully we work out and learn from what went wrong in the last 6 weeks or so of the season at both AFL & VFL levels.
ps. Hopefully Dimma learns the next time we play Collingwood:
(i) The Pies try to blitz sides in the first 40 mins. If you can keep within a couple of goals of them you'll run then down in the second half. We however panicked and fell totally apart structurally which resulted in us coughing up 6 goals in the 10 mins either side of quarter time. That was the game.
(ii) Whoever plays on DeGoey plays him from in front not behind. It takes away his space to lead into. It was bad enough he had Rance on him instead of Grimes but even so Rance should have been instructed to play in front. No coincidence that McGovern took that game saving mark because he played DeGoey from in front. It also showed how DeGoey is unaccountable when played in this way. Runs hard forward but won't work back defensively.
(iii) With Grimes on DeGoey, Rance can float in front of Cox or initiate early body contact to spoil Cox.
(iv) Tag Sidebottom: 41 disposals against us down to just 14 in the GF.
