THE PLAYER AT EACH AFL CLUB WHO NEEDS A CHANGE OF SCENERY FOR GREATER OPPORTUNITIES

Andrew Slevison
SEN

Jack Ross

Jack Ross is one player at Richmond who could do with a change of scenery.

The 22-year-old has played 48 games across five seasons and is more often than not on the outside looking in.

That has only become more apparent since the arrival of Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper, and even with Trent Cotchin’s move forward opening a midfield slot, there have been few opportunities forthcoming.

Ross was drafted in 2018 and started his career in promising fashion in 2019 when he was played as a midfielder.

Over the last few years, however, he has often been used as a bit-part player who fills gaps when key Tigers on-ballers are out of the side. Even when that is the case, he is often deployed on flanks or the wing.

Ross is contracted with the Tigers until 2024, but could look elsewhere if he wants to become a permanent midfielder before he enters his prime.

I've been very critical of this bloke

But I have to say last night it is the best game I've seen him play

Thought he was our best. Still want to see him in the guts but credit where it is due was bloody good last night

Yep eaten my words. Was excellent.  He's actually had a very very very good run of 10-15 games if you include last year.
Go Tigers!

Jack Ross is crap.

You people obviously can’t recall any other games this year. Last week he was poor if I recall.

VFL player at best rort poor decision making skills. Scott was probably happy he was getting the ball as he knew he would sfa with it.

Dud.

Thought he was pretty good all game.

Would have preferred to see him tried in the guts but the coaching staff thought it a great idea to use Short in there and Ross on the wing.  :help

Why wouldn’t they swap them?

Mindboggling :pullhair

The Undroppable: Jack Ross

He’s been back in the team for four weeks, but it’s time for Jack Ross to get an extended run.

The 22-year-old was one of Richmond’s best with 26 disposals, 10 marks, six inside 50s and two goal assists from the wing.

Ross has been in and out of the team constantly over the last few seasons, however, he must be given opportunities for the remainder of the campaign to show what he is capable of.

Composure is a good word for him.

Always been great at keeping him arms free.

Thought he was gonna kick that goal too that's how confident I am in him in front of goal. Shame it fell short was on line.

Do people really want to see him playing outside roles.

His skills are nothing flash yet he is one of the bigger mids we have and he had just 4 contested disposals.

Nothing changes he gets a bit of ball in a role he really should not be playing and all is forgiven againThen the 4 poo games will happen where his skills are badly exposed  and then rinse and repeat.

Fmd soft as butter Short Short playing inside and big bodied  lack of skills Ross outside. It has been a shemozzle for god knows how long.

And again i say apart from being able to roost the ball a good distance Shorts disposal is not that great either.

The lack of polish in the team has  always been there yet with all the rule changes and the obvious need for more class in the outside roles we continue to pick well ordinary players who just don't cut the mustard with the way the game has changed.

If nothing else the last three seasons has shown just how deluded we have become. We have stopped evolving and stopped acknowledging what needs to change simply because we find it too hard to make some tough calls on players and not just the oldies.

Regardless what role he played he was good on Saturday, he made good decisions, got a lot of it, ran well and had a huge crack. That in itself is a huge plus for Jack cause stringing all of those things together has been rare at times.
Go Tigers!
