Changes for the GF?
« on: September 20, 2019, 11:15:25 PM »
Maybe slightly dependent on opponent, but for me:

Out:
Nank (too slow, unfit, not capable enough)
Graham (shoulder)

In:
Balta or Chol, depending on the game tomorrow?
One of KMac, Pickett or Ross.

Interesting to see who we bring in for Graham. Trying to think who is next in line out the mids in our VFL side and as far as inside mids it's the likes of Towner, Ross and Pickett.

Alternatively, Floss moves into the midfield to replace Graham and we bring in a backman instead to play Floss' role. However, that may unbalance the connection in our defence as far as quality intercept options, especially if Broad misses with concussion as well. Floss is a gun back there. Obviously there's a guy called Stack who has shown he can play well in defence who is trying to make a last minute shot at returning quickly after his ankle injury. McIntosh will be the other experienced option. Eggy has been in good form in the VFL but it's a big ask to bring him in to an AFL Grand Final.

In: Ross, Balta/Chol

Out: Graham, Nankervis

Stack or Pickett should come in for Shorsteps but won't  No doubt the usual suspects who thought he as good last match will say so again and like last match it will be based on his flashy front running once the opposition's pressure dropped right off, while they completely ignore the turnovers, panic and complete lack of defensive accountability that led to at least 3 Geelong goals when they were well on top in the first half..not to mention the 4th goal he gave away for a clumsy head high in the third quarter for good measure....#downhillchamp :shh

What a story if Pickett could come in and play his first game in the Grand Final  :rollin

Apparently the club's considering resting a few for the VFL Granny in case they need to play next week....not sure that's altogether wise... :shh

Several VFL Tigers a 'strong possibility' to be rested due to key AFL injuries

AFL.com.au

RICHMOND will consider resting a host of players from Sunday's VFL Grand Final, as it waits on the extent of injuries to midfielder Jack Graham and defender Nathan Broad.

The Tigers bravely fought from 21 points down to overcome that Cats on Friday night, qualifying for their second AFL Grand Final in three years with a 19-point win.

It did so despite Graham being hampered by a dislocated shoulder sustained in the first term and having lost Broad to a nasty concussion late in the third quarter.

Graham soldiered on, though will have scans on his injured shoulder in the coming days, with the Tigers currently unsure over the damage he sustained in the opening stages.

Meanwhile, Broad didn't return after copping some friendly fire from Jayden Short.

Richmond will subsequently consider holding players from this Sunday's VFL Grand Final against Williamstown, with an eye on next Saturday's crucial AFL premiership decider.

Mabior Chol, Dan Butler, Jack Ross and Marlion Pickett were the club's four emergencies for Friday night's game and could therefore find themselves as the most likely to be withdrawn.

"It's a strong possibility," Hardwick said on Friday evening.

"We'll go back tonight and figure it out. We're not too sure with Jack … and Nathan was obviously ruled out with concussion. (But) we've got an eight-day break, so we'll assess those guys and give you the information as soon as we've got it."

Sydney Stack will feature in Sunday's VFL Grand Final, attempting to reclaim his place in the senior side having made a remarkable five-week recovery from a syndesmosis injury.

As for what he needs to do to earn his spot, a jovial Hardwick set his expectations high.

"What does he have to do? Just six goals would be nice," Hardwick laughed.

"(But) I'm not too sure. We thought our boys played pretty well tonight. Once again, we'll take stock, review the game, take a look at Sunday and figure it out."

Richmond superstar Dustin Martin and captain Trent Cotchin also looked ginger throughout the first half, though Hardwick quickly extinguished any concerns over their availability.

Martin appeared to cop a cork in the early stages of the game, though played out the match, while Cotchin returned after sustaining a kick to his leg from Joel Selwood.

"(Trent) is all fine," Hardwick said.

"He cops knocks every week, it's the way he plays. He's a ballistic player, so his physicality is something that does inspire, but it also gets him hurt every now and then.

"(Dustin) is fine. He's all good."

You would think broad would be fine with 8 days rest although everyone recovers differently from concussion.

If graham misses out which looks likely then the most like for like replacement would be Ross although if stack gets through the game on Sunday I’d find it hard not to bring him in instead.

Other than that I think the only other change we need to look at is the rucks. Second ruck is a tough role with limited time on ground to get into the groove. I will always think that your second ruck should be a very capable forward which I don’t see in nank. Looks like soldo has claimed the no.1 ruck role and deservingly so given his performances so I would consider Balta/Chol for nank depending on the opposition and how vfl granny goes.

Jack Ross is the like-for-like swap for Graham, while Sydney Stack will return for the Tigers in the VFL tomorrow and could push his case if he proves his fitness.

Nathan Broad is the other issue and was ruled out with a concussion suffered in the second half. If Broad is unavailable, his replacement may depend on whether they’re facing GWS or Collingwood.

The Giants boast a tall forward line, which could see the Tigers go to another key defender like Ryan Garthwaite, otherwise they may have to roll the dice with Stack or turn to someone like Kamdyn McIntosh.

Richo reckons tomorrow we'll time manage those in the running for a senior spot rather than not playing them at all in the VFL GF.

Tigers consider handing Marlion Pickett an historic grand final debut

Graham's injury means there are likely to be players held out of the Tigers line-up for Sunday's VFL grand final.

Sydney Stack, having recovered from a syndesmosis injury, was left out of the side on Saturday night. Jack Ross and indigenous rookie Marlion Pickett were also likely to be rested, for they, along with Stack, are potential candidates to replace Graham if he is not available.

Pickett, 27, would be an amazing story should he be handed an AFL debut. The midfielder spent more than two years in jail in his teenage years, including for burglary, is a father of four, and had been overlooked by several clubs until the Tigers took a chance on the South Fremantle product in the relaunched mid-year draft.

He has been close to senior selection for several weeks. Should Pickett play, he would be the first man to make his senior debut in a grand final since Keith Batchelor in Collingwood’s loss to Geelong in 1952, and only the second since 1926.

Ross has played seven senior matches since debuting against Port Adelaide in round four, the latest in round 22 against the West Coast Eagles.

Broad, who also played in the 2017 premiership, was knocked out by friendly fire and the Tigers say he will be tested through the week. Mabior Chol and Dan Butler, the latter a part of the '17 triumph, were two of the four emergencies on Friday night and could also find themselves in grand final contention.

If you told me 2 weeks ago I would say ruck combo of Soldo and Nank, but Nank is slow looks unfit not taking marks etc.Chol has to be considered.

Although Nank is not at his best. His tackling and aggression have been good. He has now got two tough games under his belt which he will greatly benefit from. Need him to curb aggression of Mumford.
