I’d be happy if he misses the whole year.

He gets a game only by his name as he is absolutely poo. If Hugo is crap then Maurice is on the same category.

Hopeless.

This is ridiculously unfair. He's 20 years old and played 20-odd games. I can't wait to see what we have when he's 23 and played 50+ games.

Harsh take. He's had some stinkers this year I didn't think tought was one of them he had some great pressure acts and some link up play which hasn't been there for a while.

Needs goals like he did in his first few games. Playing higher up the ground isn't his game I think.

Like really really really wanna be sold.
But just can’t see it.
He over thinks situations, maybe with experience and time.
But….

Need not to panic when he has the footy and learn how to kick.

Other than those two most obviously crucial things he has great speed and causes turnovers.

Great courage last night by young MRJ to put in that 2nd effort just before he hobbled off

Put in the first one, pinged his hammy but as he was trying to get off ball was near him again he put the burners on to try and cause a turn over

Easy thing to do was just keep heading to the bench but he didn't

What does that say about those who didn’t squib? There were a few incidents so I must check the tape as it’s not conclusive being at the ground.

On Rioli.

How many tackles did he lay last night, and how many times did he touch the ball last night. I don’t check stats often but I would imagine he wasn’t involved at all.

I saw missed tackles (not just by him) and a bloke who just panics,  and is slow to make decisions.

We need another small forward big time as he isn’t the answer. Pies have 3 and we have Rioli. Let’s get fair dinkim here

I don’t care what his name is. if he ain’t up to it then find someone who is. Cumberland 8 tackles last week and people wanted him languishing in the VFL So what do they expect from  rioli?

Ffs even George knew how to apply pressure. What else has he got?

Said this a few times but your only in the forward line to tackle and pressure there's an issue.  He needs to be more offensive and make defenders chase him.

Riolis first year role and game style was much better to watch, he kicked goals and he roved packs. This was under Teague. Now he is nowhere the ball is until the opponents have it and he appears. He is also up the ground way more. He pinged his hammy at half back / wing. Shouldn't he be deepest small forward?

I'm all for keeping Maurice accountable as I'm not a huge fan just yet but I don't think he's been managed or developed the right way. Need him in forward 50 and now where else, just like his first year and hitting scoreboard.

He's gone backwards big time.

Was hoping for a step forward this year, which is a fair expectation, but he's gone a step back so is two steps behind my minimum expectations. Very disappointed and I have no idea what the problem is but I hope the club sorts it asap.

He's not the first and won't be the last to hit a snag in his development at a young age. There is more than enough there to persist with. Let's not forget the Rioli name comes with enormous pressure and expectation to not only be AFL standard at a young age, but be an outstanding talent. Is certainly not the biggest issue we currently have.

He can’t kick an his decision making with ball in hand is below average.

Daniel is an exceptional kick and doesn’t panic.

Granted he’s fast and can tackle but unless he hones his skills I can’t see it but I hope you’re right.

From left field - could we use Maurice as a small defender?  His closing speed & tackling are both top shelf, since his small forward role is largely defensive why not give him a shot at defending?

I figured that’s why just having him exclusively as stay at home crumbing forward is idea for him. Easier to kick between two stationary posts than to a player on the move . He’s never going to be a hybrid forward/mid like  Robbie gray
