I guess worth Maurice Rioli Jr coming in he will be really down the order. A shame because we used a first round on him and it must have been hard getting back on the park after surgery. I do wish him all the best. He has great talent and goal sense. Should play 100 games somewhere else

It’s hard to step up when you haven’t done the work so if we don’t get his right value, I’d keep him as he could also be a Neale type mid for Richmond

Jack Higgins won’t play for Richmond next year.

Both the Tigers and Higgins are in agreement that his future lies at another club in 2021.

Higgins is contracted for next year, so a trade would need to be struck that the Tigers would accept.

But the 21-year-old small forward wasn’t able to cement his spot in Damien Hardwick’s best 22 this season.

It’s understood Higgins has settled on a Melbourne-based club for next year.

But it won’t be Carlton despite the Blues’ desire to land a younger small forward.

Higgins burst onto the scene in 2018 before brain surgery last year threatened his career after playing the first 13 games of 2019.

He was taken by the Tigers with pick 17 in the 2017 national draft.

Speaking on AFL Exchange's hour on Trade Radio, AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey said the under-contract Jack Higgins, who has reportedly requested a trade, could fit into a team as a midfielder.

"It's going to take a reasonable trade deal to make it happen. He probably just got overtaken a bit by Jake Aarts late in the season, he was injured as well in the lead-up to the finals with a calf," Twomey said.

"He was kicking bags of four or five and was clearly one of the better players on the park (in scratch matches).

"St Kilda has been closely linked a few weeks back and when it was put to them, it has been strongly denied.

"I think he's definitely a valuable player because of his hard running power. He sees himself as a midfielder."

Agree WP. A 2nd rounder would be more than fair given it will be a late 2nd round (mid 30s) with St Kilda finishing 5th.

The Saints currently have picks 15, 58, 71, 87 & 105. So they either have to find a 2nd rounder at the trade table or offer up their future 2021 one.

Jack Higgins will not be playing at Richmond in 2021 despite being contracted for one more year, and now the reason for his departure has been revealed.

According to 7NEWS’ Tom Browne, the 21-year-old was convinced he needed to move on from the Tigers in order to get game time and kick some goals.

The small forward has agreed with the Tigers that his future lies elsewhere, with St Kilda emerging as his most likely landing spot.

“Higgins is contracted but as I explained this morning, he is keen to get a game and play,” Browne wrote on Twitter.

“He’s missed two grand finals. St Kilda are in a good position. But there is wider interest too.”

Browne had earlier told radio listeners that Higgins had an urge to play some footy and kick some goals.

“Jack Higgins has a year to go on his contract with Richmond. He just wants to play for and kick some sausages,” Browne told Triple M.

Browne reported on Wednesday that Higgins’ most likely destination is St Kilda – after it emerged Carlton were unlikely to sign him despite showing interest earlier in his career.

“I think he’ll end up at St Kilda, there’s a lot to play out there but that could happen definitely,” Browne told Triple M.

The 21-year-old’s career was derailed in 2019 after he was forced to undergo brain surgery.

Higgins struggled to land a spot in Richmond’s best 22 during their premiership-winning 2020 season.

He was recently embroiled in an off-field controversy after his partner Tenisha Crook unleashed a tirade at the Western Bulldogs while in the AFL hub in Queensland.
