It all seems odd until they provide us more detail.

When did he actually tear it off the bone?

He tore it off the bone originally in the pre-season. All that detail is in this thread.

And since then, form the most recent article posted just 2 days ago

"Gibcus was initially expected to return in the first half of the season but suffered multiple wound infections, muscular atrophy and damage to the nerve supply in the hamstring before he was ruled out for the rest of the campaign by the end of July."

Hence, why they've made the call to send him to Qatar to see experts in the field. And just on the above article it is pretty clear that yes, this hamstring problem is more severe than Grimes. I don't remember Dylan ever having nerve supply issues or severe muscular atrophy

Why wasn't he send earlier obviously they had no idea all year puzzling.

Gee I don't know maybe because the experts over here you know the surgeon and sports scientist types from around Australia (AIS) initially said we've got this covered, you just need to do A, B, C.

Clearly that hasn't worked so our club has decided to look further and found this place in Qatar

Again read the article from 2 days ago where it says

Tigers physical performance boss Luke Meehan has spent recent months engaging with external experts across the globe to get to the bottom of an issue that has left specialists stumped, finding only one athlete based in the United Kingdom who has faced something similar, underlining the task the club is facing.

So it would appear that the Club heaven forbid may have gone about this the right way

Pretty obvious that Gibcus will not play in 2024 given the state of his hamstrings and the need to get them completely right

They used to send players to Germany, now Qatar!!!  Just shows how pathetic the medical system in Australia is. Really, no experts in Australia. WTF

Agree do the research etc , but it took nearly 10 months to gather this information find that a bit strange especially with alot of information shared online etc. Each to there own I got no confidence in our conditioning and performance staff.

We got no exuse to not invest in our football department that Dimmer was taking a large portion of 2 assistant coaches gone to surrounding Yze by quality will go a long way.

We need a fit Gibcus so we do whatever it takes and wait as long as it takes. Managed well and he still plays 200 games. No rush on this important key defender :shh

We got no exuse to not invest in our football department that Dimmer was taking a large portion of 2 assistant coaches gone to surrounding Yze by quality will go a long way.

See here is the thing, so many on here keep going on and on and on about it being the fault of the conditioning staff.

Gibcus had surgery and I've said this time and time again and people ignore it because it doesn't suit their narrative and the Club followed the advice of the surgeon all through his rehab. Now again people may not like hearing this but that is what generally happens after anyone has surgery you tend to follow the advice of the experts also known as the surgeon.

Clearly at some point the Club has decided to go looking for answer somewhere else as things did not go to plan as per what the surgeon expected.

So here we are, the Club still doing the right thing to get this kid right and people are still sooking, sulking and potting.

I don't have great confidence in our strength and conditioning department either on alot of things but on this particular injury they are not to blame no matter how much people want to blame them

On assistants you are assuming that the Club are not going to replace those who have left. I would think that is a watch this space at the moment

You are correct about their being more soft cap available now Dimma's gone; so it will interesting to see where it is invested

And finally the other part of this regarding the soft cap is will the cost of this trip have to be included in the soft cap? My guess is yes, it shouldn't but knowing how HQ works it will be a yes

Loser attitude - how the stuff does a player have a 2 year hammy?

Did you actually read the article Knighter about how bad this injury and issues are? This isn't your stock standard hammy or torn of the bone hammy tendon. to suggest otherwise is simply wrong

And I'd suggest if they treated it like just another hammy and he did some more serious damage you'd be one of the first to go absolutely ballistic at the Club for ruining the kids career

WP, how do you actually know that the conditioning staff are not at fault or didnt contribute to this delay. Lukey was handed this role on a platter with no competition.

seriously how do you know? You will say he say the same im sure.

Lynch ditto but even more odd  considering he was rushed back for r1.

Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

So this so called "passionate" Tiger person who works in recruiting not sports medicine takes some bits from an article puts his spin on things and you take it as gospel

The only person at the moment I'd sack is the bloke who wrote the tweet.  :shh

This is a big topic for us. Gibcus, hold enormous currency for our list and next build. He's the only first round pick on our list in the last 4 drafts 23, 22, 21, 20). 2019 our highest pick is Tom Dow.

None of us know the ins and outs of this. Where the constant frustration comes from is there are continued issues  and longer lay offs compared to other clubs and out conditioning staff keep being replaced by internal 2ICs who lack first hand experience compared to other clubs. This magnifys it.

Regardless this has to get better.
Go Tigers!
