Lot of ifs in there.
Sonsie hasn’t done any match sim. He’s a second year player. I think they’re pretty well justified not throwing him straight into the cauldron in round 1.
Gibcus is injured. Suspect that’ll keep him out until around the bye rounds and even then will have to win his spot over Tarrant, Balta, Broad and Grimes.
Clarke impressed in the preseason and seems likely to be rewarded with a place in round 1.
Brown is injured and banks hasn’t come close to winning a spot in the seniors yet.
As for Miller and Ryan. Agree 1 needs to be playing the second ruck/resting fwd role. You’ve got to accept that you are in a very small minority that thinks we should be playing all of Lynch, Jack, Nank, Miller and Ryan. You’ve been presenting this opinion like it’s the general consensus but I really haven’t seen many if any agree. That is one tall too many imo. 3 permanent tall forwards + the resting ruck makes us even more pedestrian down there then we showed we were in the preseason. Can already imagine teams rebounding out of there with ease. Jury is out on jack having another season in him, but tbh if he wasn’t going around again I would be inclined to trial Lynch and Dusty as the CHF/FF partnership and instead have another small or mid in as jacks replacement. Say what you will about Dusty’s form over the last couple of seasons, it would take a brave brave defender to leave him to go and double team Lynch. That is Of course unless a tall on our list shows that they are better placed in that role which you may be right in that we won’t really know this unless we trial them at afl level.
I think this is meant for me. Where have i asked for Miller and Ryan to be played other than in the context of Tarrant being injured and Miller plays F/B and Ryan plays as the second ruck/fwd. Are you deliberately being disingenuous.
Would like to see how many teams i have put up with all four in the fwd half
Reckon i have consistently put up this or damn close to it.
Rioli/Clarke - Riewoldt - Ryan/Miller that means one of.
Cumberland - Lynch - Bolton.
When Tarrant is back then one of Miller or Ryan plays second ruck third tall fwd and one will have to miss out. I think that is pretty much a consensus around here and a line i have pushed pretty hard. Any one who thinks we don't need to get games into another tall up fwd is wrong imo.
Have toyed with the idea of finding a way to play both Miller and Ryan that would mean one as a permanent fwd and one as a ruckman
Coming from the bench with Nankervis. But mainly its been one or the other playing and i think a permanent tall fwd would be the best option of all hence why i was so pleased we took Bradtke and why i think Balta should be persevered as a fwd when Gibcus and Tarrant are fit.
There is nothing to stop us playing JR TL and one of SR, or BM as a ruck/fwd kpf or third tall, nothing.
Sheesh we play Jack Tom and Dusty and Dusty is not renowned for his defensive efforts or running.
Dusty has been injured and had serious family issues because of them his form has been lousy.
He is now in his 30's done every thing that can be done in footy nothing wrong in asking if he has the hunger and if father time has not caught up to him a bit.
My opinion on Dusty has been and remains he is a mid who should be played primarily as a mid with some short stints thru the fwd half probably alternating with one of Ryan or Miller if we play one of them. I have been firmly against the Cotchin move fwd it just denies kids like Cumberland Clarke and even Sonsie the opportunity to play.
