The Western Australian government are eager to stage an AFL State of Origin return in Perth next February.

Off the back of hosting game two of rugby league’s State of Origin between New South Wales and Queensland on Wednesday night, Western Australia’s deputy premier and sports minister Rita Saffioti told reporters on Friday that the AFL is “very keen” on a pitch from the state government.

The proposed match would take place between Western Australia and Victoria at Optus Stadium, in a throwback to the glory days of State of Origin football last century.

Final negotiations are reportedly underway for the return of State of Origin to the AFL landscape in 2026.

Seven’s Mitch Cleary reports the AFL and WA government are deep in talks on a match between Victoria and Western Australia played on Saturday February 14 at Perth’s Optus Stadium.

Interesting to see if any Tigers get picked. Only Vlastuin is getting mentioned in the media.

No Tigers so far although ex-Tigers Baker and Bolton have been added today to the WA squad.

Mitch Cleary on Ch7 news said Broady is going to get a call up for WA, ditto Xerri from N0rt and that will ensure that all Clubs are represented

What a joke of an idea this is...seriously

The idea was dead the minute they announced Vic v WA

If they were even semi serious , it had to be Vic v SA

Surely if you need a nom from every club you'd just put Vlastuin in the Vic side.

Xerri is actually a good player but Broad being in a rep side at his current level is laughable.
