The main positive aside from the win was we finished every quarter the stronger in the final 5 mins. We needed to as we kept the Eagles in the game with our brainfades. Reminded me of our men's team this year. The final margin is a better reflection of the game as we dominated most of the play all night but it should not have got so close midway through the last (back to 6 pts).

Sheerin was BOG.
Egan got reward at the end for her hard work. It was a 'nearly' game up until then. Won a heap of contested ball but was caught HTB a few times. Just couldn't get clear at the last moment.
I thought it was Cox's best game for us by far. She seemed to have Shevlin's role and stood up.
MacDonald solid down back. Arguably her best game for us too.
Kiely was lively across HF.
Dempsey lifted after half-time.
Wakefield contested well as our sole key forward. At least hit the packs and brought the ball to ground.
Seymour did well again in the ruck against another bigger opponent.

Good win. Need to get better at making territory dominance and fwd 50 entries count.

Agree TK. Midfield/forward line needs to find a better connection and our forward set-up seems out of position and out-of-sync. Obviously helps when Brennan is up forward giving us another marking target but our small forwards seem to be out of position too often when the ball hits the deck. Definitely, at F50 stoppages they need to get behind the ball rather than all running forward of it. Old school front and square like Reid's goal.

Sheerin best by a mile just so strong and breaks tackles, creates and works her arse off. 

I really like Egan I think she’s getting better and better each game and her tackling pressure on the ball carrier is excellent.

Conti is just such a great player it goes without saying

Wakefield was excellent all game was smashing the contest and took some important marks her work rate was elite I thought.

Gabby Seymour battled against the odds and I reckon she came out on top in the end.

Thought Kiely’s game was one of her best. She presented well and took some grabs.
Dempsey was solid.

I thought players like Lynch, Cox and MacDonald had really good games and lifted their standard.

Reid had her best game I’ve seen. I was shocked hopefully she keeps can build on that work rate and forward half tackling. 

McKenzie was a little disappointing I think she’s better than her output and she needs to kick it more and back herself in and use her body more like Sheerin does. She could be the best player in the game.

Yassir up forward was a tackling machine unfortunately she didn’t get much reward for her work.

Tigers continue march towards AFLW finals

Richmond's charge towards a maiden AFLW finals berth has continued as they held off a spirited West Coast outfit by 19 points at Lathlain Park in Perth.

The Tigers looked on course for a comfortable win when they opened up a 19-point lead at halftime after a dominant opening two quarters, but the Eagles hit back hard in the second half.

And thanks to a goal-of-the-year contender from their captain Emma Swanson, they got within six points late in the game.

But just as the Eagles looked like pinching a massive upset win, Richmond's Laura McClelland took a courageous mark as she went back with the flight of the ball with little regard for her own safety and took a chest grab before West Coast's Kate Bartlett cannoned into her running from the opposite direction.

It proved to be a match-winning play as it changed the momentum back in Richmond's favour, allowing Grace Egan to kick the last two goals and seal the victory.

The 6.7 (43) to 3.6 (24) result saw the Tigers extend their club record winning streak to five games and provisionally catapulted them into fifth on the ladder.

Egan also had 18 disposals and seven tackles to be the best player on the ground.

She enjoyed great support from Eileen Sheerin, who was outstanding with 21 disposals (12 contested) and a goal, while Mon Conti continued to push her case as the best player in the league with another 18 touches (12 contested), three clearances and a goal.

The win came at a cost for the Tigers, though, with Sophie Molan coming off second best in an ugly head clash with West Coast's Ella Smith in the first quarter and taking no further part in the game.

Meagan Kiely was also reported for a dangerous tackle on Emma Humphries.

The Tigers had won their previous three games by two, four and four points respectively, and as they looked headed for another thriller in the final term, Ferguson described it as an unwanted case of deja vu.

"You can look at that (glass) half full (or) half empty, right? Because the response form that moment (when West Coast got within six points) was just outstanding and I just thought we controlled the game completely from that moment," Ferguson said.

Charlotte Thomas was superb for the Eagles in defence with a game-high 23 disposals, while Swanson was also brilliant with 19 touches, 11 contested possessions and nine tackles.

West Coast dominated the clearances 23-15, but got comprehensively beaten on the outside as Richmond smashed them in the inside 50s (39-20) and also enjoyed a comfortable buffer in contested possessions (109-95).

"There's a few things that we can get better at to get more inside 50s," West Coast coach Michael Prior said.

Whatever happens this weekend, Richmond will remain at least a game inside the top eight with just three rounds to go.

And with match-ups against bottom-10 sides Carlton and GWS still in their run home, Richmond will like their chances of featuring in the finals.

RICHMOND has extended its winning run to five games and moved closer to a maiden finals appearance after a hard-fought 19-point win against West Coast at Mineral Resources Park on Friday night.

After a nail-biting run of close wins, the Tigers were again forced to fight to the end, putting West Coast away in the final five minutes to win 6.7 (43) to 3.6 (24).

Grace Egan sealed the win with the final two goals as the Tigers notched their fifth win of the season and put themselves in the mix for a top four finish at the end of their fourth AFLW season.

The visitors had control for most of the night, but West Coast captain Emma Swanson cut the margin to just eight points early in the fourth quarter when she got free on the boundary and converted on the run.

The Eagles continued to surge but couldn't get the extra goal they needed before Richmond executed what was the critical play of the night.

It started at half back where Laura McClelland stood under the ball to take a courageous, crunching mark before moving the ball along the wing, where Gabrielle Seymour and Courtney Wakefield also took big contested marks.

Superstar Monique Conti then got involved, marking at half forward and then sending the ball inside 50 with a perfectly weighted pass to Egan, who finished what was a terrific team goal and the match-winner.     

Eilish Sheerin was the star for the Tigers, finishing with 21 disposals (12 contested), six inside 50s and her first AFLW goal, while Conti was all class throughout with 18 and three clearances. 

Egan's team-high two goals proved vital in the end, with midfielder Meg Macdonald (15 and four clearances) important in the stoppage battles.   

West Coast, wearing its pride jumper, continues to improve but fell to its fifth loss in six games, remaining winless against the Tigers from three attempts now, despite the teams entering the AFLW competition together. 

Charlie Thomas worked hard to finish with 23 disposals and seven rebound 50s, while captain Emma Swanson (19 and nine tackles) tried to will the team home in the final term.   

Exciting forward Ella Roberts continues to show flashes of brilliance and was able to win the ball and burst into space, finishing with 14 disposals and four inside 50s. 


Sheerin's reward

A great story of perseverance, Eilish Sheerin joined Richmond as a 29-year-old recruit in June and has quickly found her feet at Tigerland after making a brilliant debut in round one. On Friday night her season went to a new level, kicking her first AFLW goal when she converted on the run with class from an angle.
