World Cup 2010 qualifiers...

After the China game which is now a dead rubber, the Socceroos will be placed in a group of 5 Asian Confederation nations which play home and away against each other (8 games in total). The top two teams in the group will automatically qualify for the 2010 World Cup. The 3rd placed side gets another chance to still qualify via a playoff. So hopefully the Aussies will finish in the top 2 and qualify automatically.

So we will be one of the 5 ? right.

And I gather that the other 4 teams are going to be pretty crappy so we should get there.  :thumbsup

Yep we'll be one of the 5.

The 4 other teams will come from the likes of Japan, Iran, South Korea, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, etc. Not a walk in the park by any means but teams on our level.

If we don't qualify for the World Cup now we deserve to be called a laughing stock. After all those years of tough one-off qualifiers this is a dream run. Almost as though FIFA want us to qualify.

Here's the draw for the final 8 games:

10-09-2008    Uzbekistan  v  Australia
15-10-2008    Australia  v  Qatar
19-11-2008    Bahrain  v  Australia
11-02-2009    Japan  v  Australia
01-04-2009    Australia  v  Uzbekistan
06-06-2009    Qatar  v  Australia
10-06-2009    Australia  v  Bahrain
17-06-2009    Australia  v  Japan
