The Socceroos need to qualify automatically by finishing in the top 2 if they want to qualify for the World Cup. The current team wouldn't win a two-legged play-off against a South American side.

Holger's formation for a home qualifer was terribly negative with two holding defensive mids. As a result the Socceroos transition from defence to attack was way too slow, wide and 'safe'. It wasn't until late in the game when Oman tired and their two rows of 4 (back 4 + mids) started to break down and open up that the Socceroos were able to break the lines and finally look dangerous near goal. By then though it was too late thanks to a first half that was simply embarrassing and schoolboyish. The worst part was the Oman players looked to have better technical skills when on he ball compared to the Aussies.

We need to draw tonight against Japan in the WC qualifier. If we don't we have to win the next 2 remaining games. In case Jordan wins against Omen.

0 - 0 at half time. We've had some chances on the counter attack. Our defense has held up well and got back in numbers.

Japan equalize with a stoppage time penalty. 1-1.
Still a great result for Australia at this stage.

Going into the game a draw is all I was hoping for but we should of won being a goal up just before extra time.

Japan played very well and the Socceroos were very disciplined.
Would have been nice to get the win but over the balance of play a draw was a fair result.
Still need to win our last two home games to qualify. Lets hope we do. :thumbsup

Really lucky they didn't score earlier.

Can we make it if we draw one of the next 2 Tucker?

Need to win Tuesday

Mathematically yes, but we will be cutting a really fine line.
Playing Jordan and Iraq in our last two. Currently are in second spot. Not taking into account the other game that is happening tonight between Iraq and Oman. Hopefully they draw.

Just got back, good night out.

Soft first goal to Oman on the counter with their first real taste of possession, before and after that it was all Australia.

The own goal and their keeper (who plays in the EPL) kept the scoreline respectable for them, coulda shoulda been about 5-1. Watched Timmy in the warm-up nail header after header from crosses, they say practice makes perfect, well there's only 1 Timmy Cahill and we are screwed when he hangs them up, if we are not already. Any defence worth their salt encrusted sacks wouldn't have let him get anywhere near half of the chances he had tonight.

Brosque and Archie Thompson are useless baps, Brecia is well past it, thank poo he got injured and got subbed off after coming on as a sub himself.

The time wasting by these sand greasers and the racism of the refs towards us poor ethnic hotpots down here in the ass hole of the world is a stuffing disgrace. It's tough enough trying to play a girl's game that goes entirely against our national identity with the dregs of our athletic talent without having to put up with that poo.

Still have a game in hand on the rest of the group but we're now a bee's prick away from missing out on Brazil. I for one do not want to miss out on the barbeque meats and brown cha chas on offer over there.
Sorry for the delay but I just read this.
Very funny.  :lol

....anyway on tonight's game why did the idiot handball it with 2 minutes to go.
Japan was clearly the better team but we could've pinched it.  :banghead

Bloody hell, if we can't smash the bottom two at home we don't deserve to be in Brazil.

Im expecting easy wins.
