I know it was only a friendly but a great effort by the Socceroos last night, minus Timmy Cahill, to finish 2-2 with Germany.

minus Cahill, Kruse, Spiranovic, Luongo and Sainsbury.

Germany weren't at full strength but they have a replacement "second 11 players" worth about 3-400million euros, that 2nd eleven has 11 players that would walk staright into the socceroos side.

Results mean poo all at friendly level, have said it from day dot when we were losing games early under Ange, its what you get out of the games, ie playing style, finding new squad players etc. Regardless of the result today, we would've taken a lot out of the game. If Leckie learns to score, he'll be world class, unstoppable when he's rampaging like that

I know that we're probably only ever going to be a decent middleweight, but it feels like Ange is building something that is going to go bang in a big way and put Australia on the map.

Leaving out Timmy, the bulk of the current Socceroos squad has at least the next two World Cups in them. Most Soccer players don't peak until they're around 30, so it won't surprise me if we're an even better side for Qatar 2022 or wherever or whatever time it is held, compared to Russia 2018.

Well done to the Matildas on making the knockout stage of the World Cup.

A good night too for the Socceroos. They didn't play that well but got the three points away to Kyrgyzstan 2-1.
