We just won the first play-off game 2-1 against UAE.

Our two goals more down to individual moments of brilliance than any great team play. Boyle beats two defenders on the right to get into the box and put it on a platter for Irvine to finish. The second - a late rocket from Hrustic for the winner.

Irvine: https://twitter.com/10FootballAU/status/1534251899561594882
Hrustic: https://twitter.com/10FootballAU/status/1534259838682898435

Arnold leaving Atkinson at RB who was too slow for Al-Mazzi cost us the goal.

Peru now standing in the way of a World Cup spot which will be a much harder task. Unlike tonight, we won't get away with sloppy midfield turnovers nor slow defenders who are easily bypassed by pacey attackers/wingers.

0-0 at HT.

We've created more attacking opportunities thanks to Boyle on the right wing but we've not been clinical enough in and around the box both in open play and from set pieces. Just too sloppy at critical moments. The positive is we are creating chances and we're still in it.

Still 0-0. Off the extra-time.

We've had our chances (esp. Behich and Hrustic) but can't yet put the ball in the back of the net  :scream

Off to Penalties  :pray. Lucky to get through ET given the Peruvians hit the post.

Redmayne subbed into goal.

I've been a huge critic of Arnold for the negative tactics and gamestyle he used during the Asian qualifiers even against weaker opponents but in the last two playoff games he finally allowed the team to play the ball around and attack more to create a number of chances. It was an odd performance from Peru sitting back and the slow tempo played into our hands but you can only beat what's put up against you and the Socceroos were the better side during regular time and deserved the win. Left our best effort to last thankfully.

Agree, Damo.

Well done to Bailey Wright. Not just because he's a Tiger supporter  ;D but he deserved a place after his performance against Peru.

Only mindboggling decision is Mitch Langerak missing out :huh3.

I wish Rogic was going too but I understand why he was left out of the squad as he isn't getting any games at West Brom. They won't even sub him off the bench despite them being bottom 3 in the Championship. He's just being wasted there.
