Love Thursday nights

Another day of footy each week

HRT mentioned folks from regional arras

It also isn't family friendly. Kids have school the next day so alot of families don't go

Most people have work the next day, so getting home close to midnight isn't grat for fans

Thursday nights are to appease the TV networks and Thebes broadcast agreement

And for the AFL to suggest it is what the fans want, is laughable at best

Don't disagree with anything you've said apart from the last bit. It might not be what all fans of the clubs playing on a Thursday night want but overall footy fans love Thursday night footy I reckon

Richmond CEO Shane Dunne said the Club was excited by the decision to move Dreamtime at the G to a Friday night, adding that the entire fixture was family-friendly.

“Moving Dreamtime at the ‘G to a Friday night opens the audience and gives us a chance to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their contribution to the game on an even greater level,” he said.

“Playing in every state that has an AFL team and returning to Tasmania also creates an excellent opportunity for all our fans to see us up close in 2025.

“Home games against Brisbane (4.15 pm Saturday), West Coast and North Melbourne (both Sunday 1.10 pm) early in the season are at suitable times for families and travelling country fans, which is also really exciting.”

Dunne added that the Tiger Army would have a strong chance to continue its excellent attendance history when hosting home games against Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, and Geelong.

“Traditionally, these games have always brought in big home crowds, so our members can rest assured that there will be some huge games with a trademark Richmond atmosphere to look forward to.

“We are really excited by what lies ahead. Next week’s National Draft is an important part of that, and this fixture will give our supporters around Australia a great chance to see these young players in action and be a part of their journey from the beginning.”

Fansxwho don't go to games love Thursday nights

Fans who go, hate it

Just have to look at the various social media platforms to see that

Social media isn’t a platform to gauge interest in anything. It’s a platform for serial whining.
I think Thursday night are great for a heap of people - kids included but obviously get challenging once the commute is greater than half and hour from the G.
The odd late night isn’t a big deal for kids, particularly with only one day left before the weekend. I sometimes wonder if we wrap kids up in cotton wool and/or hide behind our kids because we don’t like it. My young fella loves a night game - the atmosphere is so much better
Both ratings and attendances were right up with Fri nites so that’s got to say something.

“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Exactly, but people still go and watch in decent numbers. And people at home love watching footy on Thursday nights. People love watching footy on any night that's possible

I don't think the AFL Fans association is a platform for serial whining. It gets balanced feedback. The AFL’S own yearly survey of fans says people the fans don't like it.

Personally,  if I drive in it takes me over an hour to get home. If I catch the train it's over 90 mins. Now when you have a 7am start time for work on the Friday it ain't great
