Vlastuin

When you offload your better players, have to be careful not to trade out the soul. North Melbourne did this and they are stuffed. Essendon lost their soul with the drugs saga. Both been stuffed.

I think traded Vlastuin we lose some of that soul we built in the dynasty years. Same if we traded Broad or Nank. But Balta, Hopper and even TT I don't think we lose anything we can't get back in the draft.

The guy who was made a life member today was traded after 250 games and being at the club since he was 17.

Then Richmond won 3 flags

True, but I'd be pretty confident in saying Lids wasn't the heart and soul of the place. I loved watching Lids and had the number 3 on my back when he was drafted but I don't think he was enormously heart and soul player. But you make a good point.

Seth Campbell.  Sell high.
Reckon he's a dud

Well seeing he only singed a 4 year contract extension a month or so back I think it reasonable to assume he isn't on the trade table

I do agree outside of perhaps cotchin,

Vlastuin is the most 'heart and soul' player the club has had in the modern era

Apparently rumors Hopper wants out.

Might be win - win

If that’s true, I’m sure the club would happily facilitate and even contribute a decent chunk from his salary. Doubt they’d ask for much in return either, maybe something like a future 2nd rounder.

Nothing against the guy, he’s had a good individual season, but don’t think any of the experienced are worth holding to contracts if they want out.

Agree
Shame Tassie isn't coming in next year

Man I know some of you don’t like Campbell and he’s become this sorta polarising figure with some praising him and some being overly critical but to call him a dud is pretty wild.

He’s 20 years old and was a a rookie draft pickup. I’m just his second season he has finished as our leading goal kicker, playing as a small fwd in the by far lowest scoring team in the league.

Lmfao comparing lids to floss, trading balta Campbell.

This is the funniest thread in a while this one.

I was in the camp of trading hopper, but now I would hold him and TT for another year at least.

We need them to protect our kids coming through.

Why can't prestia Ross and Vlastuin protect the kids?

They are not a special needs school.

Would be mad to reject draft good draft assets for hop and tt at this stage of the rebuild

Prime Lids was better. People forget how seriously good he was.

And it/s nothing against Floss, who is my favourite player.

I haven't forgotten and I don't think anyone else has. He was a very good player.

I would take Vlastuin without any question at all.

Also Lids was not a team player IMO and didn't want to hang around after the tough times.  He leaves we bring in meatball and I would choose the latter as well.

Vlas on field leadership is not even in the same breath as lids.

Vlastuin for me, any day.

Prime Lids was genuinely good AA footy though and he stuck around consistently through some genuinely crap years. About 12-13 of them IIRC.

Yep. 12 years.
And people carry on like he abandoned the club at the first sign of trouble.

What are people thinking. We need a balance of youth and GOOD experience on game days. Next year our starting 23 will get younger when the likes of Smillie, Lalor, Hotton, McAuliffe, Algar, Faull, Armstrong, Gibcus, Brown, Trainor, Campbell, Sims, I also expect picks #2 and #3 to play most games.I would hope they give Gray a good go as well.

Lynch one more year, Taranto, Hopper, Broad only one more year ,Valstuin 32yrs, Nankervis 32yrs, Prestia 33ys if he goes around again.

Most of these blokes arent here for much longer and we need good experienced players like Hopper  Taranto Balta Miller, to be there when they do go. They are the only B plus players we have in the 24 thru 28 age bracket. We simply cannot afford to lose anymore players in this bracket until some of the  younger players step and become good players with 80 - 100 games behind them, and we get   some mature recruits in, in the right age bracket.

Patience is the word we have just completed   year 1 of what most likely will be at least a 5 year building phase.
