Good to see four games scheduled at Craigieburn. Playing games on a MCG size ground should help with the development of our cubs.

Just as an aside, it was mentioned on SEN today that the link between Richmond, Coburg and Calder is now to the point where the kids at the Cannons follow fitness and dietry regimes set by the Richmond fitness staff.

Yep they're no more. GC17 makes the number of clubs even.

Tasmania deceide it didn't want to be the VFL - they made that choice. Their preference was a state based league

SO they clearly think they DON'T need a team

Actually disappointing to see only 4 games at Craigieburn

I would have done a 5-4 or 6-3 split myself  ;D

Maybe Craigieburn could be used as leverage to get the grandstand at Coburg fixed? As in, fix it or more games get shifted to Craigieburn.

Moreland have had 5 years or is it 6 years to fix the Grandstand

The possibility of playing games at Craigieburn has been on the table for over 18 months and still they do NOTHING

Moreland don't deserve anymore chances

Poaching move angers Pies
James Bresnehan
December 19, 2009

GLENORCHY has demanded the maximum transfer fee of $15,000 for Tasmanian and Magpie captain Shane Piuselli.

Piuselli has signed with VFL club Coburg next year.

He is not the only Magpie who could join AFL club Richmond's VFL team in 2010.

Fellow Pies Jaye Bowden and Bryce O'Garey are also in the sights of the VFL Tigers, now coached by former Glenorchy premiership coach David Newett.

Coburg could be up for $45,000 in transfer fees for the trio.

"I've rung the Coburg football manager and told him that if any of them do go we'll be wanting the maximum transfer fee," Glenorchy chairman Steve Allie said yesterday.

Piuselli confirmed yesterday he would be a Tiger next season, but only on a one-year deal.

"I've got a good relationship with 'Newie' and it's a good opportunity for a change," Piuselli said.

"I'm only going over for a year, at this stage.

"There's no guarantees I'll be playing senior VFL football."

Piuselli will join Coburg's preseason program on January 11.

Allie said Glenorchy was not happy that Newett appeared to be targeting his old club to boost Coburg's stocks.

"There are at least three of our players that he's targeted, and for somebody who got his first opportunity to coach and therefore launch his career at our club to then want to attack it by trying to recruit our players, that is disappointing and unreasonable," Allie said.

"Brendon Bolton [a former North Hobart and Clarence coach] went over to Box Hill and didn't start targeting North Hobart and Clarence players."

Glenorchy believes it will retain Bowden and O'Garey.

"Jaye and Bryce have been over to Coburg and had a look, but I'm not sure they liked what they saw," Allie said.

"They will probably stay. I wish Shane well, personally.

"We must not forget we won 10 games on the trot last season with him out injured, so it's not the end of the world."

Piuselli defended Newett's recruiting drive.

"Glenorchy has had the success it has had over the past four years because of the culture that David Newett set up," Piuselli said.

Jake De Sousa joins Williamstown from rival VFL Club Coburg. De Sousa played with the Western Jets before playing the last four seasons with Coburg.

This is not on the net so I typed it in...

Tigers secure Power for 2010
By VFL football | Paddy Higgs

COBURG'S on and off-field stocks have been boosted, with the Tigers signing delisted North Melbourne ball magnet Sam Power as playing assistant-coach.

The Tigers had made bids for both Power and fellow former Kangaroo Daniel Harris, pending the chance both might be picked up in last Tuesday's AFL preseason and rookie drafts.

Harris found a new home after being taken at No. 1 in the preseason draft by Gold Coast.

But Power's passing over is Coburg's gain. He will play a similar role to the Tigers' 2009 playing-assistant Tim Clarke.

Power is well-known to Coburg coach David Newett, who worked with the AFL 123-gamer at the Kangaroos during the past two seasons. "I'm rapt,'' Newett said.

"He's a quality person and an outstanding leader. He's very professional in the way he prepares and plays.''

The fallout from the drafts is set to continue for Coburg.

Having stitched up Power and highly rated dasher Justin Kadhlefelt from Queensland, Newett will turn to youth to complement the Tigers squad.

"We'll look at any gaps from our list's perspective, of what we need to do,'' he said.

"We're just about covered, so we'll be a bit more selective now.

"We'll obviously speak to all the Cannons boys and some other kids that missed out.''

Some more Coburg news not on the net but in the local rag albeit from 10 days ago......

Winds of change sweep Tigerland
By VFL football | Paddy Higgs
Hume Moreland Leader
Wed 16 Dec 2009, Page 42

COBURG Tigers' David Newett-led revolution has begun and it may have even the most ardent of supporters reaching for the record come Round 1 of 2010.

The VFL club has farewelled several from its 2009 crop, but reinforcements are lining up.

Gone are former playing-assistant Tim Clarke (Richmond's new development coach) and South Australia departees Nick Liddle, Andrew Horne and Nat Caruso.

Arriving is highly rated midfielder Justin Kadhlefelt, while the Tigers have also lined up two former AFL players to join Newett's coaching staff.

The duo will join Coburg as assistants if they are not able to find homes in today's (Tuesday) AFL preseason or rookie drafts.

"They've basically said they're going to play with us, but their first priority is the rookie draft,'' coach Newett said. "If they don't get drafted, they're playing for us.''

Kadhlefelt, a ball-carrying onballer who played for Southport in the Queensland Australian Football League, is helping ease the burden of losing best-and-fairest Liddle.

Newett said there would also be increased opportunities for fringe players Damien Rayson, Ben Clifton, Jason Morgan, Murphy Ambrose and Tom Groves.

Several Calder Cannons, including Andy Duhau, will also bolster the Tigers' youth stocks.

"Andy Duhau is training really well,'' Newett said of the 19-year-old who had three games with Coburg last season under the VFL's 23rd-man rule.

"He's been very good. He shows very good leadership skills.''

It means that, come the new season, the Tigers' line-up is likely to be largely unrecognisable from its 2009 equivalent.

Coburg is also nearing an appointment for its vacant general manager position. President Bill Balakis told Leader the club had a shortlist of three names and began interviews last week.
