I had this dream...Richo could kick like Jack does....ahhhh imagine how many more wins we might have had over the great man's carreer.

In all seriousness - I do not think there is a better reader of the play/flight of the ball better than Jack going around the AFL at the moment.  Jack is truly an A grader.  Would walk into any team in the comp.

His workrate last night was first rate.

His footy brain is exceptional.  The Houli kick to the square in the dying seconds of the third...Jack let Astbury (I think ) go up for the mark with the carlton defenders and he just stood at the back of the pack and took the easiest of marks...and kicked his 6th.  He was smart not trying to go up for the mark and just hold his ground.

Clever clever player is our Jack.

RICKY Nixon needs all the friends he can get right now, and a big section of the AFL community should warmly embrace him.

Every single member of the Tiger army, perhaps the loudest and most passionate group in the game, has plenty to thank the besieged player agent for.

Nixon was sitting beside Jack Riewoldt when the blossoming superstar signed a contract extension last year.

More militant agents might have urged Riewoldt to wait, back himself and allow the huge offers from Greater Western Sydney to roll in.

But Riewoldt signed, more than a year ahead of schedule, with the blessing of Nixon, who believed Punt Rd was the best place to build his career.

If you look beyond the recent dumb acts, Nixon has made his share of smart calls in the past 15 years. If you're a Richmond fan, the Riewoldt call was pure genius.

Riewoldt deserves most of the credit for having the old-fashioned loyalty to re-sign early, for considerably less cash, but imagine the speculation right now if negotiations had been put on hold. He was due to come out of contract at the end of this season and it was timed perfectly for a GWS raid.

If GWS are prepared to pay a rumoured $5 million over five years for Melbourne's Tom Scully, what would Riewoldt be worth right now if he remained unsigned?

Riewoldt would be worth much more than Scully as the ideal GWS poster boy.

He even has Collingwood premiership players Scott Pendlebury and Dale Thomas, both still unsigned as GWS circles, comfortably covered as a potential marquee target.

It is far easier to find midfielders than power forwards and, if Riewoldt is not already in the top five players in the competition, it won't be long before he is in that company.

Anybody who watched his six-goal performance against Carlton on Thursday night would be convinced he is now an elite player. The heroics of 2010 and the Coleman Medal were not a one-off, as the cynics might have suggested.

If anything, Riewoldt remains underrated despite becoming the face of Richmond. Yes, he is that good.

So good that opponents get the shakes in one-on-one contests with him. Riewoldt has developed an aura that seems to put defenders under a spell.

His judgment of the ball's flight is uncanny. The pill just seems to fall into his arms no matter how congested the goalfront.

In an era when the long bomb forward is back in vogue, that skill is priceless.

Richmond had only 37 forward entries on Thursday night, but Riewoldt managed seven shots on goal.

And every Tiger fan watched with glee, knowing Riewoldt was safe until the end of 2013 and that GWS had been taken completely out of the frame.

Riewoldt signed what was basically a new three-year deal in August, with the Tigers re-writing the terms of this season and adding on two more years.

It is believed Riewoldt will earn between $500,000 and $550,000, plus incentive bonuses, through the term of the contract.

Had Riewoldt and his manager Nixon waited, they could have earned more than double that to head to Blacktown.

But in a huge victory for Richmond, and football in Victoria, the game's new superstar is going nowhere.

Perhaps Richmond should offer Nixon life membership to ease the pain of the two-year ban slapped on him by the accredited agents' board.

Jack Riewoldt’s six-goal haul, against Carlton in last night’s season-opener at the MCG, equalled the most goals scored by a Richmond player in a Round 1 match since 1994.

Riewoldt has now kicked six goals or more six times in his 69-game AFL career.

Walls tonight compared Jack to Peter Hudson because both were/are great readers of the flight of the ball and would often mark the ball without leaving the ground because of better judgement than their opponent. Now that's a big call!  .  Quartermain said that's like comparing Bradman to Andrew Hilditch (which is even a more ridiculous statement  ). Walls replied Jack is the reigning Coleman medalist and if he kicks 6 every week he'll be up there.

Hudson was exceptional but seriously Jack is right up there with many at reading the ball in the air.

LOL. The bloke knocks himself out in the first 15 minutes of the game trying to take an absolutely ridiculous mark, and then he was not allowed back on the field so he couldn't add to his tally. What are they saying? He's going to be subbed of in the first quarter every week? He's only 1 goal behind the leader and he's only played 1 game. I'd say he's still a pretty good bet.
