Tigers general manager of football Dan Richardson said it was a big step forward for the club’s future.
“To secure Jack for an extra three years is a great result for the club, and all Richmond fans,” he said.
“Jack qualified for free agency at the end of 2016, but he had no interest in playing anywhere but Richmond, and had no hesitation in extending his contract.
“To extend his contract demonstrates a great faith by Jack in the direction the club is heading, and his willingness to be a part of it.
“Jack has been an incredibly consistent performer on field during his career so far, and has grown to become one of our most respected leaders.”

Riewoldt, who has added a new dimension to his game in 2015, said he had no hesitation signing a contract extension.
“Loyal is probably one of the words I would have if I wanted myself described by other people,” Riewoldt told Matthew Richardson on Roar Vision.
“It’s certainly something that I feel like I’ve shown for the football Club.
“They’ve been great for me too. They’ve been there for a large chunk of my life, and my family and partner’s life.
“It’s been a great ride so far. We haven’t had as much success as we would’ve liked, but the way we’re playing this year, and what I can see in some of the younger players that are signing on and playing footy for the Tiges, it’s certainly exciting times ahead.”
“I’m absolutely rapt that the Club came to me and showed interest in me signing an extension,” he said.
“The most important thing for me is just to get this stuff over and done with. I jumped at it pretty quickly.
“For me it’s been about getting the Tigers going in the right direction, and ultimately reaching the goals and successes we want.
“The Club’s heading in the right direction. It’s exciting times for us. We’ve been playing some pretty good footy on the field.”
