2 years in a row we've missed finals now.  No point in playing the 30+ players now.  We need to rebuild through the draft and development of our kids even if some of them aren't up to it.

Cotch, Jack and Shedda should all retire.

Talk about develop, no better people to develop our youth than those mentioned. A further year each for mine.

Yep. Maybe not Shedda but yes to the other two. Look at what Luke Hodge did for the Lions
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Robbo on AFL360 asked Jack about his future:

* Jack said he doesn't know. Up to him to what he wants to do. He knows at his stage of his career he is a low priority. The Club will work out how much money they have to offer and will then come to him.

* Jack said he is realistic about where and how he is playing. Thinks he is still serviceable and unlike Josh Kennedy his body is still feeling okay.

* Jack is happy to continue if the Club needs him as he knows we lack key forward depth. He's been pushing for the Club to chase and draft a key forward.

* If the Club needs him he will play on. If not and the Club wants to play someone else then that's okay. He's got other things in life he wants to do.

"I'm still pretty serviceable with how I'm playing."

Riewoldt is confident he can keep playing at a high level!

I remember going to games back in ‘78 ‘79 ‘80 we used to go early to see famous players end their careers in the early game. Got to see Neil Balme play at full forward.

I also saw what ended up being Gary Ablett snr final game which was the reserves game at the G in round 1 1997.  I’m pretty sure it was Gary v Scotty Turner. He was still kicking them from anywhere.

No shame in ending a career in the reserves. Gives the youngsters some direction and on field coaching and leadership.
I can see Edwards and Reiwoldt being of great benefit in the vfl in the future.

All very reasonable and mature points from Jack.

I'm happy for him to play on and spend some time in the VFL. Man if he played some VFL matches I'd probably go watch that instead.

Wiggins and Tassie AFL star share beautiful moment

The mateship between Tasmanians Jack Riewoldt and Ryan Wiggins was again on display following the Tigers win over Essendon on Saturday night.

Jack on AFL360 last night:

"What's the point in wasting energy on that sort of stuff?"

Jack Riewoldt has no time for the verbal back and forth on the field.  ;D

A mixed night for Jack but those two clutch goals from the boundary in the last were amazing. He would've been lauded for getting us over the line if we had won.

Now we wait to see if he goes on.

Hard call, and despite his clutch goals tonight, IMO Jack should hang them up. He was playing on a spud for one, and he is slower than treacle. I don't want to see him running around in the magoos next year. The fact that we don't have obvious replacements isn't a good enough reason to play on.

Probably the right call tbh.

I'd try Miller or Gibcus forward, see how Bauer comes on, draft another tall forward etc.

Why not? Some greats ended their careers in the reserves.

Gary Ablett snr, Scotty Turner and Neil Balme come to mind.

He can help them by not playing and letting others take his spot. He can also stay on as a development coach too.
