As much as he would learn more from a baptism of fire from Geelong, there's no rush to make his debut as much as we'd all like to see it. I'm with Darth. Unleash him on Essendon  :thumbsup

from the Herald-Sun.....

Another solid performance by No. 2 draft pick Trent Cotchin in the VFL curtain-raiser at the MCG would enhance his chances to make his debut in the Dreamtime clash against Essendon the following Saturday night.

But Wallace is mindful of Cotchin's late start to the season. "We'll see him when he's ready to play," he said.

Rance played against Geelong in the VFL. Only saw him a couple of times. Looks young and has a bit to learn. I was surprised how slight he looked considering a lot of people were saying his body was ready for AFL, not a stick figure but definitely still a teenager. Cotchin looks much more mature. As TM said earlier, looks a long way off AFL. I only watched the TV coverage so I couldn't tell you what his efforts off the ball were like. Didn't do anything terrible but was brushed off a couple of times with relative ease. Boy playing a man's game. Needs another pre season.

Oh, don't take my last post as a negative. X is right, he looks like he'll be just fine at this stage.

A snippet from sportal

After having his pre-season ruined by injury, prized recruit Trent Cotchin, who has played three matches for Coburg at VFL level, was now at 90 percent match fitness, Royal said.

"The more he plays back at that level the better he's going to be for his first game at AFL level, whenever that may be," he said.

Hypothetically, say we BEAT Geelong tomorrow and suffer no injuries and in the curtain raiser Cotchin gathers 40 touches and kicks 3-4 goals.

Do we change the team at all?

Cotchin still comes in because hypothetically there could still be a player not pulling his weight.  ;D

However if all players do their job it will be interesting.

If all 22 players tomorrow do their job, perform well and we beat Geelong then Cotch has to wait as much as we want to see him debut. It's a team game. Having said that Geelong are clear favourites so I think Cotch will debut against the Bombers.

On Rance, Rawlings in EOTT was happy with his game last week.

Showed significant improvement in just his second game of senior VFL football. A strong competitor, who also gave us good run off the half-back line.

A promising debut for Trent  :clapping. 16 possies, 2 goals (should have been 3  :-\ ) and didn't look out of place in the big time.
